My 1998 32K 5.4 4wd XLT is pinging with anything less than 90+ octane. I have a few ideas of where to start (carbon clean, plugs, etc) but would like ot hear it here first.

I've had two other similar Ex's which never pinged. Any place to start looking...?

 

I'd run it by AZ or someone else that'll run a free computer diagnostic on it. May "code out" with the answer.

BTW, are you getting "inconvienenced" at all from road or Turnpike shutdowns with the filming of BB2 or F&F2?

 

I have a 98' 5.4 Expy that I bought with 32,000 miles on it. It now has 81,000 miles and it has always pinged with anything less than 93 octane.

Have had the carbon cleaned out, had the throttle body cleaned, etc. Still PINGS!! But it sure does run great on 93 octane. Other than the pinging it has been a great truck with very few problems.
