Transmission Doesn't Like Reverse
Transmission Doesn't Like Reverse
I was hoping someone could shed some light on the problem. Sometimes it will not engage reverse with out giving it some throttle. This has happend four times in the last month. We had the transmission oil changed a couple of months ago and the fluid level looks good. The concern is that our warrenty is up this week. It is going in for a service this week. Is there anything I should mention in particular to the service tech? Thanks
had something similar to that on my old suburban.
it was a loose electrical connection with a sensor or something.
they (the dealer) disconnected it, cleaned the contacts, put that sealer stuff in there and popped it back in place, and wallah, no problems.
hope that helps a little.

Mine hasn't liked reverse-
From day one. My drive way is a slight hill, and I back in (Military Combat parking) so I can drive out. It shuddered the first day I got it home.
I asked the dealership about it, they tried to tell me it was the limited slip... I still don't know if I really have limited slip, but I couldn't see letting them crack open the tranny on my new Expy to find out. It never did that on flat land, so I thought maybe it was true. My S'Cab never did that, nor has my S'Crew- Same 4.6L set up.
It'll still shudder on rare occasion, but nothing that blows my skirt up.
Good luck, if my warranty was expiring, I'd take it in ASAP.

Thanks for all your responses. I was debating getting an extended warrenty. We plan to keep it until about 60k, or maybe until the '04's come out. Gotta admit though that the 350hp Navi is looking real interesting. Thanks again.
Well according to the service tech it wasn't the transmission after all. Apparently the emergency brake was not releasing all the way even though the light was off. They are going to do a fix today. Hey maybe the gas mileage will go up. You would have thought that I would have smelled something burning. Oh well thats the way she blows I guess.

Glad to hear it got taken care of under warranty and it was a simple fix. I had a situation with a tranny one time on a company car. We had a 100,000mile extended warranty on the car and I was out of town on a sales trip when the tranny started acting really funny. The car was getting close to 100,000 miles so I calculated how many miles I would need to get back home to get the car to the dealership. The following day I rolled into the dealership with 99,997 miles on the odometer. I told the service rep, that if I wouldn't have been able to make it, I would have parked it and had it towed in. Well, needless to say, the car got a new tranny under warranty.
As for getting an extended warranty, my advice would be to pass on it if you only plan on keeping it for another 20,000 to 30,000 miles. If you plan on running it to over 100,000 miles then I would say look into it. Plan on spending at least $1000.00 for a warranty though.
