Airbox Mod
Found a DIY project on another site to mod the existing OEM airbox to a FIPK (I currently have a K/N in it). With a new bizzilion piece Dremel Kit on my bench I was wondering about taking it on.
A couple of questions for members first:
1.) Has anyone done this yet and was it worth the effort?
2.) I know that with hot weather there's a potential loss of power (I live in West Palm Beach so cool weather is the exception).
3.) For those with a FIPK, do the filters clog more frequently compared to the sealed box?
Thanks,
Keith

There are 2 mods...
1. is with the 90 degree pipe, the other is just taking the fender draw and enclosure off of the stock.
Don't know which you are talkng about, but I don't think the pipe one looks all that hot to me.
I think the pipe was galv. Electrical pipe, and I would have a concern with the gavl. flaking off ( not REAL sure of this ), and getting into the system.

If you want my advice on the 2, I would think the modify stock is the better of the 2, IMHO. Maybe even a junk yard woudl have a stock intake for you to Dremel up, so you still have your stock intake ( I don't mod any of my stock parts, in case I need them back on the truck ).
I have a K&N FPIK, and the filter does not get all that dirty, compared to a stock filter. Then again I am not running in a heavy dusty area. That might make a severe difference over the enclosed filter..can't say one way or another on that.

Thanks for the info....here's the site I found for the mod:

Looks a little cleaner than the other two (which I've seen).
Have you serviced your K/N yet?

Have a K&N FIPK with the cool dry charger too. I clean and change it when I do the oil which is about every 5K or so.
In Chicago, you get two seasons, winter and construction! So it sees a lot of filth on the road, and off it get worse. Also, I get my fair share of water under the hood.
Ive never seen them clog to the point that I had to get under the hood to clean it. Also, with the dry charger it seems to stay a bit cleaner too. Every 5K does it, I am sure it could go longer but....
