Thumbs up

When I read your post I tried to think of a vehicle that did not come in a 2wd model.

These came to mind:
Hummer
Jeep Wrangler

Anyone think of others?
(by the way the Expedition isn't on this list)

I've got a 2 wheel drive Expy. It's a 2000 model. I've seen just a couple of them here and there. I've also seen very few 2 wheel drive Excursions. I would think they would sell better in southern states than northern ones.

90% are 2wd in Houston...not mine though.

Oh, and Raoul, don't forget about the Porsche 959.

What about the Toyota Land Cruiser

I've never seen one of those as a 4 x 2

having driven both a 4x4 and 4x2 expy. unless you need the 4x4, get a 2wd. The 4x4 drives like crap.

Edamon, your prior post might be the dumbest statement I've ever read. You obviously don't know what you are talking about.

My father has a 2 wd Expedition and I have a 4 wd Expediton. Naturally, we've both driven each others vehicles and concur that they drive similarly. I've put Rancho RSX shocks, a steering stabilizer and 285/75/16 AT's on mine and it is smooth as glass at all speeds...up to 100 mph.

Perhaps his words could have been better chosen but factory stock ride and handling of the 2WD is much better then 4WD. I have driven many examples before determaining that this fact is indisputable

That may be your opinion Petrol, but I would put my Navi in stock form up against a stock 2wd expy anyday. I have driven both and the factory air suspenion on the Navi (which is also available on the Expy as an option) clearly rides much better than a stock 2wd Expy.

Navi Man, you may well be right about your 'gator riding better then a 2WD Expy. I was reffering to 4WD Expy vs 2WD Expy.

BTW, mine has the optional factory air suspension

toss the navigator in there too.. I was going to buy one of those first, till I drove it.

anyone that thinks a 4wd handles and rides like a 2wd is high. I've owned 4 different brands models of suv's and the same holds true across the board. My buddy just sold his 4wd for this exact reason. He'd rather toss chains on a 2wd to going skiing 10-12 times a year then live with that suspension year round.

Edamon,

This forum is great for offering up opinions, but describing the ride quality of a vehicle as CRAP and saying that somebody who doesn't agree with you is HIGH, isn't necessary. I've seen some of your posts on here and they are obviously very biased and usually contain no real support for YOUR opinion. Mellow out on the name calling. We're all on here just to help each other out. There is a reason that the majority of SUV'S are 4wd and I highly doubt that people would buy them if they rode like CRAP.

Well, I have owned both 2 and 4 wheel drive Expy's and maybe I can chime in here. Sorry,I don't get high except for when I'm in my treestrand hunting. I do think that the ride is better in the 2wd,but that should be expected. No front differential up there to change geometry of front end plus the difference in ride heigth of the 2 vehicles would make a difference in the feel of the ride. Different tires can also effect the feel of a vehicle as well. I also have the air suspension on the rear of my 2wd. The 2wd can also tow more weight than the 4wd.

Since everybody else is.....

Since everyone else has thrown in an opinion, I'll toss one in.

I have a 2WD Expy XLT Sport, and I gotta tell you, ride quality was something that went right out the window between it and my 1999 F-150. But, I wanted it so I got it.

It rode OK with the stock 275/65/17's, it rode worse with my 295/65/16's (But I lived with it because I had to have my new rims from my 99 when I traded it in on the 2000 Expy.) Believe it or not, only now does my truck ride with any similarity to a smooth ride since I slapped on those 275/55/20's.

Having said that- My 2001 SuperCrew STILL rides better, and it's a 2WD pick-up truck.

Anyhoo, I have test driven 4x4 & 4x2 Expy's and Navigators, and even though I'm not overly impressed with the ride quality of the 2WD Expy/Navi- In my opinion, the 2WD's ride better.

Even the 2003 Expy, with it's IRS, won't let your senses fool you into thinking it's a car. You still know you're in a truck.

I think Lincoln tweaks the Navigator's suspension a bit more softly than the Expy. since it's charter is Luxury and the Expedition is more utilitarian. It did seem to ride a bit better- but maybe that was the placebo-effect of riding in a Lincoln and expecting a soft ride.

Hey- My friends loaded AWD/4WD Acura MDX rides like a dream compared to my 2WD Expy.
