Question Blinking O/D Light

I have a small, hopefully small problem that just started on my 99 Expedition. The OverDrive ligt on the gearshift is blinking. Nothing I do, pressing the button, etc will get it to quit. That is until I turn the vehicle off, then restart. It seems to start blinking either when it hits 2200RPM or about a minute after starting. The vehicle runs great, and is shifting just fine. While driving it, I am able to turn overdrive on and off and feel it when it kicks in and out, but the whole time that light is blinking.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am trying to avoid having to go to a dealer for what could be a simple problem.

Thanks,

Jeff

With the exception of a short in the wire connected to the O/D button itself, this is potentially a very serious issue. It's similar to a check engine light but this one is telling you there is something wrong with your transmission.

In or out of warranty , you should get this looked at asap before any damage occurs.

I agree with what AjRagno said.

You might reset the computer and see if it happens again, but my guess is that it will.

I had that problem

Or, it sounds like the problem I had 6 months ago. The light started to blink and it just did not shift as smoothly after a while. I took it into the dealer and they said they had to replace the "module." It cost me $130 to get fixed and all is well now. I will look through my sales reciepts and see if I can find the part number
