Expedition Thunder (lightning)

Any information on mods needed to install a 5.4 SC Lighting engine in an 99 EXpedition (5.4 equipped) would be helpful, I am mainly concerned with wiring harness mods (because of additional sensors, computer, exhaust- are headers needed, fuel delivery. I am installing a complete new 5.4 lightning engine, everything but ignition crated factory direct.
Has anybody done this other than Ford's experimental Thunder Program?
Thanks for all assistance.

IT IS A BEAUTIFUL IDEA
BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A LIGHTNING.
DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE MY EXPY AND I WOULD LIKE TO DO THE SAME THING.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND IT IS GOING TO COST ALOT OF MONEY

IF MONEY IS NOT THE ISSUE THEN HAVE A SVT FORD DEALER INSTALL THE SC.

THIS WAY ALL THE WORK IS COVERED. LESS HEADACHES IN THE LONG WRONG.

GOOD LUCK

I was wondering the same thing. My '98 has the 4.6 in it and was wondering what would need to be done to install a 4.6 Cobra engine. Have you been to KarKraft.com? Lots of engine upgrades offered.

Man, if you have the resources to do it than I say go for it. Why be normal? Different is good....

I'd would drop right in. It's the same engine except for a couple of internal differences and of course the SC. AS for headers, that's up to you but while you going on with it, might as well.

And as for the 4.6, I personaly wouldn't do it. That would be a real big dissapointment. That 4.6 from the Stang has the power to move a Stang, not a 5300# SUV. You gotta have grunt (torque) which the Stang don't need (at least it doesn't need as much) plus the power curves are not right for that much weight. Go for the SC "L" in a crate.

I would guess (that's a guess now) that the SC 5.4 in a crate and all other parts you need would run close to $7500 plus installing it. Another option is the 32v 5.4 that is available in the Navigator.

Installing the 5.4 Lightning engine in my X is also on the wish list. I saw
some deals offered on the "crate engine" earlier in the year which seemed
to be less in price than what some aftermarket supercharger kits alone
cost.

Some other parts to consider with your swap would be the rest of the
stuff to complete the intercooler (tank, hoses, pump? etc.). I under-
stand the transmission in the L is beefier than what we have in our X and
am undecided if I would change mine right away. If money were not a
issue, I'd stuff the L trans. in from the start.
One of the things holding me back from investing this kind of money in my
X is the leaking intercooler problems. Even if a warranty is offered with
the crate engine, I still feel this would be a pain in the a** to put up with.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted with your results!!!
