Supercharger For 99 4x4 Exp
Supercharger For 99 4x4 Exp
Has anyone Supercharger there Exp ? The only ones I have seen are 4x2 not 4x4.
Crash is it worth to Supercharger my 4x4 Expy ?
I would like power all around with no lag. I have heard that roots type is the best way to go.
Should I go with a Magnacharger, Whipple or Kenne Bell ?
With a Supercharger will my 0-60 and 1/4 mile drop by 2 seconds ?
I need some expert advise.
PS My SVT FORD dealer says they can Supercharger my EXPY
Eaton, Headers and custom chip all work would be under warranty. I am scared to ask at what price ?
99Expy 5.4
K&N Filter
Vortex Cherry Bomb muffer with dual rear exist
GO-Rhino Chrome Grill
Euro rear Altezza tailights
Real molded wood trim burlwood
285/60/17 Toyo Proxes ST

I have been researching this for some time....
My recommendation is to put the Magnacharger in - this is what I am planning because I want instant boost for towing. Advantages - good support, well engineered and virtually invisible.
Whipple has been promising a kit for the 5.4 for about a year but it is still not available. Their 6.8 kit is supposedly available (I say supposedly because when questioned about it on their bulletin board they get all evasive about delivery times). They have a good reputation with the Chevy boys for support. The kit will be close to $5k with intercooler though (!)
Kenne-Bell has a kit available but their reputation for customer support is not good and their kit looks like crap (someone described it as designed by a 1950's refrigerator designer) and I have heard it hits the hood. Also, there is no intercooler.
Centrifigals as probably not the best choice for a truck as heavy as the Expy - they are best for high RPM use and I want TORQUE. ATI is probably the best of these units.
Finally, the weak link in the drivetrain will be the AWD transfer case - the 5.4 is close to its torque limit already. This is why the Excursion doesn't have AWD. I think this will be OK if you don't beat on it in low range. My plan is to see what happens and go to the SD transfer case if necessary.
I have been thinking about a SD with the Crew Cab and PSD instead but really want to keep my Expy.

Hey Ian N
What does it mean to bulletproff the trans ? Does it mean to upgrade the trans ?
Also what did you mean by SD transfer case ?
I am also concerned about the AWD will that help me off the line or hurt me ?
Are you installing the Supercharger yourself or having a professional do the work ?
Let me know how you make out

My plan is to install it myself (once I get the order going - still working on the Boss but making progress).
By SD transfer case, I mean the F Super Duty case from the Excursion (I think this would be a big job, though).
If you look on the ford diesel forum, there are lots of posts on how to beef up a 4R100. Start with a shift kit and add valves and accumulators from Baumann engineering. There was also a good article about beefing up the trans in MMFF this month.

FYI-
If you want her to "feel" alot lighter then I would definitely recommend SC. Have not had a problem with it and got better gas mileage. Its a daily driver for me. The suprise on the Chevy driver is worth it in itself.

Check out www.truckperformance.com right now. They have the Holley Thunder, Ken Belle and others. The Thunder is $4999 right now with free shipping and 5% off if you've gotten the email/coupon code. Ken Belle is about $3500 I think. Not bad.

Thanks for the info WAY2BIG
Sounds like you have a sweet truck
Did you have any pictures of your SUV along with the SC installed ?
Have you done any 1/4mile & 0-60 times on the track?
I noticed that you mention 18" wheels for the Brembo brakes
would 20" works as well ?
what is the difference between Pro-M 80mm vs 75mm Edelbrock/BBK TB.
