2003 Navigator cam help

Does anyone have a "how to" or any pointers on setting up the timing chains on a 03 navi 5.4 dohc engine. I just replaced the chain and now when you start it, it revs to 3000 rpm and stays there for a sec, then sputters and dies. if you touch the gas pedal, it backfires and dies. Any help is greatly appreciated.

look for it on a mustang forum, its really easy. 4.6L and 5.4L are the same

try this link:
http://arrc.epnet.com/autoapp/8823/8..._and_Gears.htm

here is a quick how-to, look at the link above for pics and more details.

1) install the cams on the heads, but make sure you leave the lash adjusters (look like rockers) off.
2) MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE CAMS ON THE CORRECT SIDE, AND THAT YOU DONT CONFUSE THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMS. do a google search of the part numbers to confirm if they are intake or exhaust, and passenger or drivers side.
3) once installed, point the keyways on the cams so that they point straight down in relation to the mating surface of the head/block. in other words, the part of the cylinder head that makes contact with the engine block is considered the bottom of the cylinder head.
4) get the secondary cam chain, and the two gears. now, place both of the gears in the chain, and holding ONLY one of the gears, make the key on that gear is pointing straight up. the other gear should be dangling below the 1st gear.
5) for the 2nd gear, with the 1st gear key pointing straight up, make the 2nd gear point straight up, to match the 1st gear
6) holding both gears, slide them onto the cams, making sure NOT TO MOVE THE CAMS
7) install secondary tensioner, release locking pin on the tensioner, and the secondary cams are now timed.
8) install spacers/bolts as needed

primary chains

VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE LASH ADJUSTERS OFF THE CYLINDER HEAD AT THIS POINT

1) point the keyway on the crank to the 6 o'clock position, and install the crank gear.
2) install the primiary timing gears on the cams
3) on the timing gears, there are timing marks (dots). for the passanger side, make that timing mark point to 10 o'clock, 1 o'clock for the drivers side
4) get the chains, and they should have two darker links, which if the chain is laid flat and stretched out, these two links would be oposite of eachother.
---- if you dont see the darker links, thats fine. get some white out and mark them yourself. get the chain, lie it flat, and stretch it out. all the links should be horizontal EXCEPT for two vertical links and the end....mark these two links.
5) install the drivers side chain so that one of the darker/marked links lines up with the timing mark (dot) on the crank gear.
6) for the same chain, line up the other dark/marked link to the timing mark on the cam gear.
7) install timing guides (the flat one first, then the curved one), install chain tensioner, and release locking pin on tensioner.
8) install cam bolt
9) repeat steps 4-8 for the passanger side.
10) rotate crank by installing the crank bolt, and install the lash adjusters. as the lash adjusters are being installed, you should feel the resistance of turning the crank increase. IF THE CRANK REFUSES TO TURN....STOP IMMEDIATELY AND VERIFY THE CAMS ARE INSTALLED ON THE CORRECT SIDE AND THE CORRECT INTAKE/EXHAUST.
