If he was pulling a trailer & you weren't, I'd say you have a problem.

I'm sure it's the gears, plus you have a NPI motor and he has a PI motor

In 1999 Ford motor company redesigned the cylinder heads on the 4.6L and 5.4L SOHC engines. NPI=Non performance improved heads PI=Performance improved heads. The main differences being the PI heads have more threads for the spark plugs and have much better flow characteristics then the 98 and older style non pi heads. There might be some other changes as well but those are the 2 major ones. Better flow always = more HP

If you really want to kill your brother ride Ill make you a killer deal on an L swap with very low miles. L swap meaning Lightning"Supercharger" it makes lot of heat and thats why i hate all postive displacment blowers but it is what it is.

I’m not sure but summit lists the headers as being the same part number if that helps. I don’t blame you I wouldn’t want to buy stuff over and over again like i've done in the past LOL. I think there the same if the part numbers are the same. John

P.S. put a blower on there you got the exhaust already so feed her. All you need is the fuel and air now!! you can find great deals on the blowers right now with the way the economy is " ITS A BUYERS MARKET ON EVERY THING RIGHT NOW" powerdyne is a great way to start out for a taste of what a SC will do for you plus there dirt cheap An almost complete kit will only set up back a grand or less. There’s no other upgrade that will give the HP for the buck like a SC or turbo will. Not even heads and cams can do the same and that’s for real.

4.6 NPI - 220 hp
4.6 PI - 231 hp

Your '98 Ford 5.4L NPI -235 hp
His '01 Ford 4.6L PI - 231 hp
Also your 4x4 is heavier and it's probably higher so, all things being equal he should edge you.

But if he was pulling a trailer and still spanked you, something else is going on.
