Fuel Pump Change 2005 Exped. E.B. 4wd

Just some NOT SO GOOD INFO on changing a fuel pump on my 2005 Exped. 5.4 4WD Eddie B. w/71000 miles. Looking back the past few months, once in a while in the morning the engine had a very slight miss, once in a while. I drove it about 60 miles and parked it. Then got in to take off again and it would not stay running the first couple of times it started then would not start at all. Had it towed to the repair shop and found the fuel pump (in the gas tank) was bad. The gas tank was 3/4 full and it could not be drained due to a roll-over valve in the tank so it took 3 guys to lower the tank to get to the pump. At that point called the auto parts for a new pump, GUESS WHAT!!!!! no body had one! They called a large Ford dealership in the area with a large parts department GUESS WHAT!!!! they did not have one and said that fuel pump are on back order until February!!!! What the hell is going on!!!! After numerous calls the repair shop found one in a warehouse someplace and had to wait 3 days to have it shipped in. Once the pump was in they found out there is a control module attached to the frame back over the rear-end that was also burned out. To keep from waiting until Monday to find one of them (dealer item) they found a low mileage used one, put it in and got it going. A long story short, it took 5 days to a fuel pump changed. FINAL BILL $750.00 !!!!! Oriley auto parts said one of the pump manufactures went out of business and maybe that is the reason for the shortage. If you have a 2005 Expedition or Navigator fuel pump go out GOOD LUCK!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL !!!! :santa:

Just went thrrough a fuel pump change on my 99 4X4. Similiar symptoms, but it finally died solid. Had it towed into the dealer. They had no problem finding one, it was there next morning, and running that afternoon. Its just what it cost to replace those, that kind of got to me.

Posting to old thread

I know this is many years old, but I don't want someone to get stuck in a bad spot from bad info.

I am currently dropping my tank to replace the pump, and the "roll over valve" is not the issue. There may be one there, but if the rubber hose between the tank and the fill neck is removed, there is NOTHING stopping a length of gas line from allowing you to siphon the tank to the point of being easy to handle.
