Question Video System

I think I read on here a few months back about some people putting a laptop
in their X for a travel video system. Well I just ordered mine, should be
here next week, and need to figure out how to strap it down on the center
console so it wont move.
I'm going to get an AC inverter to plug into the rear power port, a tape
adapter to plug into the Mach stereo system, just need to figure out how to
keep it in place.

Any suggestions from those all ready doing this?

Bryan

The best suggestion I can give you is don't do it. It is really difficult to strap down for starters. Second laptops never like to be jostled at all let alone playing a disc. Third is some advice my network guy gave me. If it can walk it will. Laptops grow legs real fast. Here is what I'm doing now. Clarion makes a console mount unit for thier lcd screen. Total is about $500. Next get an inverter and a sony P2. You can play games and watch a dvd on it. Best thing is you can be sure nothing will fly when you stop fast or get a wreck. Good luck.

I did it... I have a compaq 600p3 with a 14.1 inch XGA screen and a DVD/CD rom.

Of course I don't leave it in the expy all the time. I only set it up for my son whenever we go on a long trip and then it only takes about a min to set up.

I used a grey foam pad I picked up for free somewhere for the bottom of the laptop. Then I have this velcro strap which I use to hold the laptop down. The center console is pretty big, so there aren't any problems with the laptop staying on. In fact, I can still open and close the center console... just not a whole lot, but enough to toss in some toll receipts.

Lastly, I use a cassette adaptor from the earphone jack of the laptop for the sound. I have an EB with the Mach3 system... Watching The Matrix in the back seat of my Expy sounds better than watching it in my house...

I've been thinking of making a more permanent platform for the setup I have... if I ever get around to it, I'll post some pictures. I have an older Micron I wouldn't mind leaving in the Expy full time.

Oh, BTW... I purchased something called WinTV USB last friday. My son got a kick out of playing Smuggler's Run on his PS2 while we were on a road trip this weekend... The picture part is great, but the sound part is lacking... I'm still debating on keeping or returning the thing. The TV part is just so-so... especially on the interstate.
