Question Daytime running lights?

Anyone know how to turn off the DRL's on a 97? Need to have them off, they are shining in the windows in
the a.m. during warm-up and neighbors are being a pain about it. So I am not here to start a huge thread
on the pros and cons of the safety of them, just need to know how to turn them off...thanks...Caryl

Unless your X is a Canadian model, the DRLs are an add-on feature. There will be a module behind the left headlight that you can unplug to get rid of them.

Are you sure that this isn't the "autolamp" feature? If it is, then you may be able to over-ride it by manually turning on the parking lights??? At least my "other" vehicle works this way.

Nomo:
Thanks for the input. Took it to the dealer and they put in something to turn them off. I am not sure what it was called, would have to look at my paperwork to get the part number but it was like $5 and the parts man came out into the parking lot and put it on for me so now they are off...

DRL is a pain. I suggest that you check with Ford and ask them. I agree with you on the issue of DRL's however, at least it was ordered rather than standard equip like GM. How about all us North Americans telling the auto manufacture's we would like to have the option of ordering a vehicle with or without these so called "safety" features. By the time you add all this up, these vehicle's are so safe we cannot afford to purchase them. Who is so hot and heavy about air bags, DRL, Side air bags, ABS etc?
I know that when I want to buy a vehicle I would like to choose what "I want to pay for" rather than the NTSB or DOT think we need. Some one owns those company's and they are making big profits off of options which 95% of them will never get used or have a factor in any accident.

gp9196,
Could you look up the part number that they installed on your truck? I've been trying to get rid of my DRL's for a good while now and all the dealers only show the DRL module. I think what they put in was the dummy plug.

Just got back from the dealer. They still aren't showing a part number even for the Expedition. Can you find the part number and post it. These dealers around here are a real pain sometimes.
