Angry Spare Tire Stolen

With the annoucement of the Trailer Hitch recall, I wanted to check the tightness on the hitch of my '98 Expy. So I crawled under the back end of my truck and found that although my hitch was tight as could be, I was no longer the owner of a spare tire!

The last time I actually looked at my spare tire was a year ago when I changed a flat. After the repair, the spare was returned to the underside in it's usual place.

I have NO idea where or when this was stolen.

I have seen trucks with a steel cable and lock underneath to avoid this very situation. I was too naive to think someone would steal my spare in the suburbs!

Anyway, does anyone have any idea what a replacement full size spare will cost? I assume I'll have to get the OEM wheel from Ford, eh?

The other kicker is that I'm less than two weeks away from taking delivery of my new F150 SuperCrew. My Expy is on a lease, so I guess it's better I find out now rather than during the inspection at lease end.

FYI...

I went over to my Ford dealer tonight and purchased a "conventional spare" tire rim and a Goodyear Wrangler RT/S P265/70R17 to replace the stolen spare tire.

The rim was $107.66.
The tire was $119.95
Mount and Balance was $8.95
Total with tax was $254.47

Sorry to hear about your spare tire loss. If you are interested I have a Winchlock spare tire lock for sale. It is the kind that bolts to the spare tire winch and goes through one of the lug holes, that way you don't get the frame goo all over the place getting the cable and lock on or off the spare tire. Used it for 4 months and then sold the truck. Liked it a lot better than the cable and lock setup that I had on before. I paid $26 with shipping, will sell for $17 with shipping. If interested e-mail me at

mjvargo60@aol.com

for more info.

Good luck with your new truck, sounds like a nice one.

Best Regards

Michael

My spare is a General so I don't have to worry about anyone stealing it.
Actually, I wish someone would.
