Why?!?!??!

Can anyone tell me why the truck feels like a SLUG?????

I have an 03 Exp E/B 4x4 with about 76k miles on it (Completely Stock). I love the truck and I have had it for almost 6 months now but the truck has no performance UMPH!!!!! It just LOLLI-GAGS along and when it gets there it gets there.

Does anyone have any tips on improving the performance?

Also my gas mileage is terrible maybe 13 mpg - could it need a tune-up (Spark plugs, fuel filter, etc etc)

I know I'm complaining about lack of performance and how to improve it and I am also complaining about fuel economy in the same post. but the thing is that if I had 1 or the other I would be fine but I am lacking both which is why I am complaining.

TIA

I refuse to accept that this is all the power available to me.

I have had other full size SUV's (Tahoe and Suburban) and even the Suburban which is bigger then the Exp had a helluva lot more pep in it then the Exp. Not to mention the gas mileage was also better too.

SBC. . . I assume you have a 3V 5.4, I've always found those to be complete dogs anyway. I dont think you can really compare a Vortec motor to a Triton motor, they are different ballparks IMO. From everything I've witnessed and driven, the pushrod always wins, in trucks that is.

I average 13 city/15 hwy. Even with gas prices at $2/mid-grade, I still rarely push my rpm's past 2500.

Get a tuner? It'd probably be your best bet at improve drivabilty and get some power.

My 4.6 averages around 13-14 city/16-18 highway. I'd probably get better if I wasn't so heavy on the throttle.

Thanks for the input guys.

I was wondering if I was losing my mind. I took a trip to South Carolina and I put the truck in Cruise Control and the best that I was getting was about 14-15mpg.

I really don't think the tuner is gonna help me. I know this from experience because I know for a fact that it WILL increase the performance and my Right Foot will increase in pressure in order to keep the smile on my face. LOL!!!!!

I have the Big Boy 5.4 and I don't know what gears I have- I guess whatever came stock on the 4wd.

19 mpgs would be really nice.
