Rear A/C woes

I just traded my 2003 X in for a new F-150. Once reason I got rid of it was I was needing to put it in the shop for what follows, but employee pricing and big rebates on 2008 inventory got the best of me. Even since it started getting colder, I tried switching the rear A/C to the lower vents and to the adjustment to warm. Both control mechanisms appeared to be frozen and would make popping and clicking sounds. It started doing this last winter, but it would finally switch over. This year, no such luck. It was becoming exceedingly annoying and since it's hunting season, I didn't have time to drop the roof liner and fix it myself. Anyone have this issue? If you did, what was it and how much was the fix.

You just spent a ton of money for a bad blend door actuator. Parts about 100 bucks and across the board, about 2 to 3 hours of labor, depending. It could actually be changed without tearing out too much. Oh, it is in the right rear behind the trim panel at the hatch.

Yea, seems it's a common issue with earlier Expys. The blend door motors are around 40 from Rockauto.com, though a member said he got his for 35ish from the dealer.
