Gear shifter cable broke

Yesterday I went to shift my Expedition into park and the gear shifter cable broke. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is it common with 99’s?

Spend about $35.00 and get a new one from the dealer and install it in about 45 minutes. Broke mine on my F150 by crushing the plastic tubing on it.

Same problem

My 1999 ex has the same problem.Any special tools or skills required??

No special tools required. You just need to be able to work under the dash and under the vehicle. You also have to ensure the adjustment of the piece that attaches to the tranny is correct. (same as old one).

It wasn't too hard just took awhile .The biggest problem was getting the right cable from the dealer .On the upside i changed the gas filter while i was under
there.Thanks again.

Shifter Cable

I have a 99 Expedition and the shifter cable just broke...hope it's that and not the transmission. Anyway...I just looked under the dash and I don't how to take the cable loose. Any pointers on replacing the cable?
