Navigation System Problems

I bought a new 2004 Navigator last month, and have Speech Recognition Problems with the GPS/Audio System. I have recently heard that a lot of people have had the same issues.

System does not recognize and/or Interprets the command incorrectly MOST of the time.

Dealer has changed out the microphone, but that didn't solve the problem.

Any input would be appreciated.

I didn't know they had speech recognition in the Navi.
We didn't get that option in our 2004 Eddie Bauer Expy.
Good luck with your problem.

I have the same issue with the radio in my moms 04 Nav. Only way I can get it to recognize my commands is while I'm parked or at a light. While the truck is moving its as if there's too much background noise for the microphone to recognize your command. SYSTEM DOES NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR COMMAND. Nice idea but Ford needs to work on this. I can say this 04 set up makes my 03 sound like junk + the nav screen is bigger & the cd's are held in the radio.

I just got an '04 Navigator a couple of days ago and tried the voice activation today. It worked as advertised. The nav system works off a DVD that goes in a slot on the side of the console. It doesn't take up any of the CD slots.

This is exactly my problem. While parked at the Dealership it works fine.

Just got a call back from the Service Manager at the Dealership. He told me that they were not getting any satisfactory answers from NAV TEQ ( system mfg).

Any suggestions on what I need to do to resolve my problem with this $2,600 option?

RDW;

Didn't want to leave you hanging on this one.
We took delivery of an 05 about three weeks ago, the vehicle is driven by my wife, and I have not really had much of a chance to play with the Nav system yet. As mentioned on the Blackwood thread, she is out of town for two weeks starting last night and I will drive the Gator while she is gone.

I did get the Nav system up and running, after a lot of head scratching and reading, and it is light years ahead of the system in my 02 Blackwood. My only concern is that it is very sophisticated in comparison. I think you could plan WWIII on the bloody thing. Getting 5 options to arrive at the same destination is a bit of overkill. But.....it does work.

As to the voice recognition system, I tried it three times, once parked and twice on the move to change the radio setting and the blower volume I think, and it worked fine every time. Based on your problem, I will try it every trip for the next few weeks and see if I can make it misbehave.

I will report back on this thread when I have anything to add.
Bill

It takes practice to make it work. I am good about 80% of the time with the system. What seems to work for me is to talk a little faster than normal but not louder. Just don't yell at it, she hates it.
