FX4 Expedition?

I was driving down the highway today and pulled up behind a black Expy, not sure what year, maybe '04. Anyway, I noticed on the right rear of the vehicle it had a metal FX4 badge. I don't know that much about Expeditions but, is this an authentic vehicle or is it just another fruitcake driving down the highway?

It is what ford is calling the expy offroad package imo (worthless) did you notice the lack of ground clearance on theat big van, not to mention you cant even put a suspension lift on the thing, Chevy is kicking fords *** on the offroad suv. imo

It just so happens I have one. I'm not sure what they consider off road but it is way too low. 3.73 posi rear 4x4 and skid plates under it. Good car though, I really like it.

We know, we know, we know. .. Give it up. If I wanted to hear the same thing on every forum day after day I'd go to a senior center and teach them to post. You are going to have to come to terms with the lifting crowd being in the minority. Sorry to have to break it to you.

cc320 whatever doesnt know what he's talking about. Ford has never offered a FX4 expedition or excursion. I see them driving around too but ive gone to the Ford sites and never seen an FX4 expy offered. THere is no such thing. It's somebody trying to make his expy look good. FOrd does need to come out wiht a FX4 expy with a rear dependent susp. get rid of the independent. Chevy is winning, but that's the only thing chevy has ever won against ford. I'd take a 351 WInsor over a 350 anyday. I'd take a powerstroke over a duramax any day. I'd take a ranger over s10 colorado crap anyday. MOst people feel the same. It doesnt say silverado.com on the website does it?

Ford DOES offer an FX4 Expedition. It comes with blacked out head lights, skid plates and Rancho shocks.

The days of a true 4X4 vehicle is coming to an end. Too many roll-over lawsuits.

Independent rear suspension and an industry-first power fold-down 3rd-row seat highlight the redesigned 2003 Expedition. Sized between the Explorer and larger Excursion, Expedition for '03 gets a wider body and new styling. It comes in XLT, Eddie Bauer, and new FX4 off-road models. V8s of 4.6 and 5.4 liters return, as does a choice of rear-wheel drive or Ford's ControlTrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. Newly optional are Ford's AdvanceTrac traction-control/antiskid system and a tire-pressure monitor. All models have 17-inch wheels. Replacing front side airbags as an option are head-protecting curtain side airbags for the first two seating rows; they're designed to deploy in side collisions and in rollover accidents.
All Expeditions have three rows of seats. XLTs in Value and Popular trim are available with a front bench seat for 9-passenger capacity. Eddie Bauer and all XLTs except the Value can substitute two 2nd-row buckets for the standard 2nd-row bench. The power folding 3rd-row seat is available on Eddie Bauer and XLT Premium; it folds into the floor via controls in the front and back of the cabin. The new independent rear suspension lowers the rear floor by 9 inches for increased 3rd-row leg room; a load-leveling option was added midyear. FX4 includes skid plates, off-road shock absorbers, and tubular running boards. Lincoln's Navigator version of the Expedition is similarly redesigned for 2003.

FX4 Expy's are no longer offered. Only 2003 saw the FX4. Since MY 04 Job One they have been called NBX's (don't ask what NBX stands for).

Sorry, I was on vacation. I don't mind someone chiming in on a topic but you chime in, beat it to death, and then come back for more. You also have a gift for getting that in EVERY board. Someone writes about their AC controls on a T-bird and the next thing you know is you are in there ranting about not being able to lift new Expys. Uggh. Enough is enough.

Kind of an old thread, but I thought I'd fill in some info...

NBX = No Boundries eXperience

The only badging is a small rectangular plate under the "Expedition" on the tailgate. It's not a good pic, but you can see it here.

Lifting an Fx4

OK, I have a 2003 Fx4. It is a good 4wd, but compared to my old Suburban (94 K1500), it gets stuck due to lack of clearance. As soon as the wheels dig in, the skid plates are on the sand.

Daystar makes a 2" coil spacer lift. The shop says I'll need new shocks as well, and they recommend Rancho RS5000 soft ride. $650 with labor. Am I going to regret doing this, when most of my driving is on road? I use the truck at beach or ranch about twice a month, and have 4 kids, friends, and wife to haul.

Daystar literature says you can use the factory shocks.

Plus, you better have that shop VERIFY that they can actually get aftermarket shocks for the '03+ Expedition. So far, I've not heard of anyone who makes one.

I just wanted to chime in that I used to work for Ford myself. Ford offered an FX4 Expedition in only the first year of the new body style which was '03. In '04 they replaced it with the NBX, it's the same damn thing. The FX4 name plate sounds cooler though. I have an '04 F-150 FX4 and I love it. Just bought a new Navigator today also, damn these things are nice.
