2003 Pricing Question
2003 Pricing Question
I am helping my folks purchase a new Expy. They found a 2003 EB that they like, and they qualify for the X-plan. I read in another thread that someone got 5k below Xplan. The sales rep told us there is no negotiation on the x-plan price.
So basically, they are sitting at 34k. Any chance to negotiate below X-plan?
Just in case, it's the EB with power 3rd row as the only option; Dark Green/ Tan.

The $$ below Xplan comes from cash back incentives, not negotiatiing the Xplan price. You should get the benefit of all incentives subtracted from the Xplan price. When I bought my 03 two weeks ago the incentives were $6k. MSRP was $45,111, my price was $33,500.
Well Always, you beat my deal.
I got mine two weeks ago to the day, and my MSRP was $41,000, I got mine for $34,000 X-Plan.
I wouldda got it for $29,000 because they were also taking the $5,000 off- but, if I took the $5K, my APR wouldda been 5.9%. I let the 5K go, and took the 0.0% APR @ 34,000- throw in TT&L, and I got a decent deal.
Damn, you got the heated & cooled seats didn't you!

I did get the heated and colled seats. They are nice, but they are a little annoying in that the heat turns off after 15 minutes (on my 99 they stayed on as long as the truck was running), the A/C turns off after 30 minutes. And the indicators for being "on" and "off" are impossible to see on a bright day. Glad I got them though.
Well, the dealer is kind of right. There is no negociating the XPlan price. X Plna is X Plan. That doesn't mean you cna get the truck for les that what X Plan "would" be. X Plan isn't that big of a deal. It's about invoice or a couple hundred below (roughly).
Know what you want and what is reasonable and get it. Go to another dealer if you have to but get it.
Hey, an idea. If a dealer in your area doesn't want to deal, try Cochise at Lone Star Ford in Houston. People fly in from around the country to pick up trucks and get deals that make it worth it. Email him and ask. He's quote you a no BS non-negociable deal. If it's not good enough to warrant going to Houston to get it, at least you have an offer on a truck that you want. Use it as ammo.

Well I havn't priced the Expys, but my EB Explorer was just a bit more than that. So if it's well loaded I would think it's a fair price. I ended up with every available option that I know of, and got a fleet price which is the same as invoice.

The dealership I referenced initially decided they didn't want to give us a deal. They were not straight forward with the pricing.
That being said, my folks have looked into getting a 2004. They found an XLT with power 3rd row and 2nd Row Capt. Chairs as the only big options. It is very nice, and the dealer was straight forward with them throughout the entire process. They plan to go in tomorrow (Friday) to seal the deal.
FYI, Estate Green/ Tan with 4.6.
X-Plan - 32,368
2k Rebate + 3.9% (60 mo.)
Thanks for the help everyone.

here's my philosophy...
if a dealer is willing to "deal" they may come down from MSRP by, for example's sake, $3k. If you qualify for X-plan, then from my understanding, they are subsidized the difference between MSRP and X-plan. So they should still be willing to come off X-plan by the $3k.
Anyways, they are signing the papers as I type this. I can say I learned a lot about the car buying process. Being a recent college grad, I plan to be getting a new vehicle within 12 months. At least I will be prepared.
Thanks again everyone.

They don't get subsidised for the difference between MSRP and X-plan. I assume you are talking about hold back, which is based on MSRP alone. What a dealer sells a vehicle for is their business, which is why they have the right to decline X-plan pricing.
X-plan and A-plan pricing is set by Ford in the spirit of "this is the most you can charge this customer for this vehicle". It basically takes their profit for each type of customer to a fairly low number. Employees obviously get lower pricing than partners. Are there instances you can get below those prices? Sure, but if a dealer were to do that they start selling into holdback which is basically the money that keeps the dealership going. If they were to sell at true dealer invoice without holdback, guess what? They have no money to pay their employees or their bills.
Everyone needs to make a buck to keep the world going around.

Best deal I got...
'03 Expedition XLT, list $37.8K, Xplan plus at the time $6000 in rebates for this area, paid $27K. The only room for negotiation is on your trade.. Which I took around to a few other dealers to get the highest number and took that to dealer when going after X plan.
