Had 3" Magnaflow Installed tonight!!

Had the Y pipe mod with 3" piping the rest of the way back and a 18" Long magnaflow muffler installed. I am very happy with it so far. All i'm going to say is if you are looking for a loud muffler, then get flowmaster. My set-up sounds really deep and mellow and there is no interior droning at all. I could belive the difference it made in accleration though. Just feels so much more responsive now. I'm going to get a K&N drop in filter tomorrow, don't know if that will do anything or not. Can't hurt though. I would probably sound a little louder with a 14" long muffler, but I am happy with mine.

I've got the 5.4L engine and I got new piping from the cats back. I got a really good deal, because one of my good friends works for a muffler shop. I got the muffler and the Y pipe from www.bigexhaust.com for about $100. They have the best prices that i've found. I paid another $100 for my friend to install everything, that is including the price of the piping and everything. So it cost me $200 dollars for everything. Unless you know somebody like I did, you are looking at paying about $300 to $400 for the same setup as me. I would just price around and find the best deal. Your best bet is probably to get the muffler off the internet though.

I just seen in your sig that you have the V6, so I wouldn't go with a 3" exhaust like mine. You will probably lose a lot of torque. I would go with a 2 1/2" setup. Would probably sound really good. And maybe even the 14" long muffler. Just my opinon though.

Glad you like your exhaust. Just so you (and everyone else) know, it won't cost $300-400 for a similar setup.

There are several SIDO mufflers that have a built in Y-pipe and can be installed in reverse for $90-115. Then use Magnaflow #15004 3" mandrel bent tail pipe $43. A shop should charge $50-100 for the rest of the pipes and labor.

Question

jkulysses, do you know of a shop in the Portland area that can install a Y? I took my FM Y to several shops and none of them wanted to install it, said the benefit would be minor for the amount of work and $ involved. I wanted them to replace the factory Y and add some 3" pipe to my existing 3" cat back system. I lost interest and the parts have been laying in a corner of the garage for about six months now. 2000 5.4 4x4.

Hey, what exact pieces do you have? I also am in the Portland area and am looking to improve the exhaust flow on my 2001 5.4l screw 4x4. If yours are sitting on the garage floor, maybe we can strike a deal . . .

I have a 5.4L 2001 screw with a modified Y and Magnaflow. I live in Olympia and a shop here in town cuts and expands the stock Y to fit 3". It is great on the highway, 80 under 2000K rpm. Just waiting to buy the Kenne Bell.

Nope, don't know much about portland. I'm sure somebody would do it for you. There is like a million muffler shop's in portland. All three of the shops that I got quote's at in Eugene would do it.

Hi, for all who may care:

I ended up going with the Magnaflow muffler...keeping my stock 2.5" tail. Then had them weld a 3.5" Stainless tip on the end. Much cheaper than the whole cat back system that I would have loved to have gotten. $$$$

I am very happy with the results....better performance (what I was looking for).....and a great sound!
