Straight pipes???
Straight pipes???
I have been thinking about just cutting my mufflers off my truck and puting straight pipe duals out the back. Is this a bad idea, will I loose any power on bottom or top ends? Want it to sound mean, and think this is the best way to do it.

scubasteve,
You're right , your truck will sound mean. I love the sound of straights. I have run them myself for years.
You will lose low-end. The top-end gain, however, is pretty noticeable. If you tow much you will find out just how much bottom is missing.
Do what you wish, it is your truck and will sound great. Watch the size of the pipes. 2 1/4"s seems to be the best from what I've heard. Rich

I was planning on leaving the cats, and puting some new straight pipes that exit the rear on it. I never do any towing, so I dont use my low end that much. Is the low end loss going to be that noticeable sinse I dont tow anything. If it doesnt effect the performance much I am all for it, and gain on high end is just a plus. So 2.25 size pipes for sure?, if I go larger or smaller what effect does it have. Thanks for your replys, Chase
I have a '99 and I am running True Dual straight pipes (2.5") you should feel how this sucker flows. the tailpipes will now push your hand away easily, before this was not possible with my 2.25" straights.
Low end I lost a little, top end is awesome. I can still light my tires up, so I'm not too worried and I only tow a boat occasionally. I have a chip and I am gettin 18 mpg.
The sound is awesome! I'll record it one of these days.
