Muffler Tip and sound
Muffler Tip and sound
I replaced the stock muffler with a Flowmaster 40 SI/SO and left all the stick piping. If I put a tip on will it change the sound?? Like one of those Gibson tips or somethin.
I don't know that a tip would change the sound of it too much as I would think the tips are to just dress up the looks of the entire system. I love the sound of my truck, but didn't hear it before the tips were put on. I would do it just to see......they only cost 25-30 bucks.....won't hurt. Good luck and let us if it does affect the sound
Probably won't change it enough to notice.
If the tip is like a "megs" tip which increases in diameter like a cone then it will sound a bit louder and perhaps more raspy. Otherwise probably no change.
Those "megs" tips change the sound similar to you making a sound through a non-amplified megaphone

Actually a larger tip like a 3-1/2" x 18" tip (like I have), will make the exhaust sound deeper and give it more of a rumble. I had a Flowmaster 40 si/do exhaust with 2-1/2" pipe going in the muffler and 2-1/4" dual pipes exiting the rear with 2-1/4" x 9" tips on it. It sounded a little high pitched until I put the 3-1/2" x 18" tip on it. Now it sounds alot deeper and rumbly, and it almost could pass for a V8. Not quite, but almost.
Peacemaker and p_ferlow are right. A meg tip or a tip like a 3x12 or longer will make it sound a little deeper and increase the sound just a little. Chrome tips in the 3X18 range will cost you about $15 and stainless steel tips I found for $40 each.
