Question Muffler Change

I have a 97 F150 with a 4.6 V-8 and with the stainless steel exhaust that ford puts on now it's gone 108,000 miles and ain't nowhere near needing replaceing but I'l like some sound from it. I can't quite bring myself to replace a good exhaust system but wandered about just replaceing the stock muffler would do for me. Maybe a glasspack?
Any help or suggestions would be apreciated greatly.

Try a search I seem to recall several members having put on flowmaster mufflers with the stock pipe.

Also if you care, Gibson also makes just mufflers in Al and stainless as well. The gibson chart is long enough you should be able to find the same length with the in and outs in the same place to provide a direct replacement,

Me, personally, I prefer the Gibson sound, others prefer the flowmaster sound, so maybe the first step is to figure out which you like better, then check and see on the design for replacement.

I cannot recall who, but another memeber has Ravins on his truck. I think the web site is goravin.com. They also have a long list of muffler designes for replacement.

Thumbs up

2 weeks ago had a magnaflow put on my 4.6. Didn't replace any pipe, just had the muffler replaced. I had them put on the 14" 2.5" si/so. Didn't have any low-end loss, and gained some on the freeway. Love the sound, mellow, louder, not blatty(?). You can hear it at freeway speeds, but just barely (I cruise at 70).
Bottom line: Glad I did it.
I did have them start it when they cut the muffler off, and at that point I was really tempted just to go with straight pipes, because it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be.
