I think the Flowmast 40 series is the loudest so if you want loud go with the 40.

I put the 50 delta flow on my 5.4 supercrew and kept the stock pipes. didn' t seem to lose the low end torque like some have with the 40. I like the sound. not too loud, not too quiet.

I went with the Delta 50 on my SCrew. 3" from the cats back with a real nice 12" chrome tip. Sound is good and no noticable loss of power. Had it done at a local muffler shop vs an expensive kit that uses clamps. Was actually MUCH cheaper and got a custom job to boot! Very pleased so far.

Good Luck!

HI StrongWind

I have been debating on whether or not to install the delta flow 50 or 70 onto stock pipes.

I don't really care about the sound at all. I just want the better flow! So 70 might work. I thnik I remember hearnig that someone installed the 70 and it sounded just like stock. I find that hard to believe but who knows. I just need to hear this stuff for myself I guess. You live near 45N and 1960 I take it? I used to live out there but am in Kingwood now.

02XLT,
Interested to see if you install the FM 70. I was going to go with the 70, but the muffler shop (Ripley's - 1960 and Kuykendahl) suggested the 50 delta flow. the flowmaster site says the 70 is better for tow vehicles, but it's suppose to be pretty quite. paid less than $150 installed/welded up.

I don't think the 50 DF is too loud. My wife and kids don't complain when they ride in the truck.

Live out 290/Barker Cypress. Get out to Kingwood occasionally to play golf!

Sounds good.

I have some friends in that area. I get out there occasionally as well. I will think on the muffler. I just ordered my hellwig rear swaybar and some 2" belltech shackles to take some of the rake out of the back end.

Hard for me to justify spending much money on the truck. As soon as my wife decides to quit her job in the Woodlands and find something in Kingwood she will get the truck permantly! Then I will be stuck driving her 96 sunfire to the park and ride and back until I decide I can afford trading it in on a new toy.

Not looking forward to the sunfire at all

50 vs. 70...had the same debate myself and opted for the 50 series. A very, very sweet tone, not obnoxious. It seemed to me at the time that the 70 series would be better suited to a motor home. If increased flow is the benefit you are seeking, I would recommend the 50. IMHO, of course!

I had the same 50 vs 70 debate. When I went to my muffler shop (Marc's Muffler in Benbrook TX) he recommended the 50 series and thought I would be happier with it.... he said they had no experience with the 70 series.

So, I got the 50 SI/SO welded in place of the stock muffler. You can hear it, but its not too loud. I think the whole thing cost me around $100.

if it helps, i have a si/do 50 series with 4.6L, at idle once the engine is warm you hardly know you have aftermarket exhaust, but once you hit the pedal i swear the thing wakes up and out of no where you are roaring. my truck is very similar sounding to a mustang gt, slightly louder IMO! i'm currently thinking about removing the whole system and getting straight pipes, no mufflers, and new high flow cats...50 series just isn't doing it for me. oh by the way i have had it on my truck for a year and a half now and no problems at all (rust, etc.)

I think I will just leave the exhaust alone and give the truck to my wife, and go in search of something else I will enjoy. Thanks all.

Cool

I decided to give the flowmaster 50 DF a try on stock pipes today and I really like it. Gives you enough sound to know you have something back there. I'm like some of the others who think the 40 would be a bit too loud for us middle aged fellows.

Well I did it I went with the Flowmaster delta 40 and guess what the damm thing is not that loud!!!!!what do I have to do? Do I need to go with a single chamber non delta flowmaster. Dont get me wrong it sound way better but I expected the 40 much louder than that.

I have a non Delta-flow Flowmaster 40 si/do on my v6. It's pretty loud. I suggest going with straight pipes if it's sound you want. I wanted to put my stock exhaust back on because the drone in the cab with the FM 40 is annoying on long trips. But a few people here said "Why would I want to put my stock exhaust back on?" I take it that that's a bad idea. I found out that the OE exhaust is to restrictive. And cuts the power way down. I would go with the delta-flow 50 si/so with a 2-1/2" single pipe in the stock location. That's what I'm going to do. When I get some extra money.
