Y-pipe help on a 4x4???

Well guys, I took my flowmaster y-pipe collector to a local exhaust shop and he said that it was not possible for him to install it. He said that it could NOT be done due to the why the exhaust is setup on my Expy. He said also that true duals were not possible at all.

Anyone have the same problem, or is he just to lazy to try. I am not sure if he had any way of doing any custom pipe bending. I was pointed to another local shop and I am supposed to bring it in Monday to see if they can do it. Crossiing my fingers. Anyone have a aftermarket setup with a 4x4 configuration? Thanks in advance!

Well, I don't have an Expy, but when I took my FM Y into a muffler shop, the guy said that he "won't do it". Basically said that I'll lose all my low end and I won't be happy. Said he'd love to take my money and all, but didn't want me "Pi$$ed" at him either.

Even showed him pics from this site from other's setup.

He even dared me to "go up the road and have Walts do it for you. Betcha won't have the results you expect".

I said I'd think about it. Never did go to Walts to have it done. The Y is still in it's box in my garage. Maybe someday, when this rig isn't my daily driver. When it becomes my "TOY", I'll probably have it done.

Just my thoughts and opinion.........

Way2,

It sounds like you are not sure that you want the Y installed. If you are not sure revisit the reasons you wanted it done in the first place. If they still make sence then......

The true duals woiuld be a difficult install but it could be done. It will involve a lot of tricky pipe bending. The fuel tank is on the driver's side between the frame rails right where the muffler should go. You would have to use glass packs or similar type muffler in front of it and route the pipes around the tank.

Hey Guys-

Here's the update. It CANNOT be done. Shop showed me that there was not enough space for the replacement to be done without replacing everything out.

Here's the but, but true duals are possible. May have to do that in the future. Something similar to Flats setup on his X-pipe. They told me that the restictions is in the stock cat converters. I plan on leaving them in and going to a true dual setup. Restrictions in the cats should help keep the backpressure issue to a miniuim, I think.

JMC-

I was wanting originally wanting a better sounding setup. The I got sidetracked with the y-collector thing. After taking it to someone who knows, I am refocused on the proper setup. Thanks!

IIRC, Flats lost power and torque with his X-pipe
