I have a dumb question. What is the average life expectancy of a Flowmaster 40 muffler? I mean before it rusts through.

 

I had a year and a half on a flow and it had some serious rust, even in Florida. They are not stainless so won't last long I bet. I went with Magnaflow on my new truck, stainless and guaranteed.

 

Have had mine on since 5/99. No rust yet. Probably helps the truck spent most of its life in Texas.

 

Mines been going strong a year and 2 months now. The only rust is on the welds, I did clean it up some this weekend, so they look better. The factory headers look a lot worse than the pipes and exhaust. No rusty water out of it, only clear.

 

when i bought my truck it had a flowmaster dual cat back. it only had a little surface rust, and it had been under there for 3 years. it was in florida the whole time, though, which might be why it lasted so long.

 

Thanks fellas. I was just curious how long Flows lasted. I've had my Flowmaster on for 7 months. No rust yet except for around the welds. I was going to buy the Gibson Sweptside in the stainless steel version, but I haven't had my flowmaster exhaust on all that long. And I think it's too soon to change it just yet. So, I'll wait a while. Does anyone have the Sweptside? If so, how's the performance?
