lightning wannabe exhaust pics?
I was wondering if anybody had some good pics of a lightning wannabe exhaust system. I have ordered the lightning ground effects but haven't decided what I am going to do about the exhaust yet. (1 muffler dual outs, 2 single out mufflers ect. ) I would love some advice and maybe a pic or two from somebody that has done this. Thanks, Paul
Have you thought about the Bassani system for the lightning? If you get the Y-pipe and cat back, it should work assuming you have a regular cab, it has all the brackets and exits right in that cut-out w/ dual 4" polished slant cut tips? sounds awesome.
Hey bborden,
I have both an L with the stock exhaust and a SuperCrew 4x4 with a "wannabe" L exhaust. The reworked exhaust on the 4x4 actually turned out quite nice. I like it much better than the exhaust on my L in both quality and sound. On the 4x4, I had the stock exhaust cut before the Y-pipe and after the O2 sensors. Then, dual mandrel bent pipe was then run to an X-pipe, then to two dual Ravin Z55 mufflers, then swept out the back at 45 degrees with mandrel bent pipe exiting before the rear wheel with 3" stainless steel slash cut tips. No ground effects though on a 4x4. My muffler shop TIG welded all the connections and did "museum quality" work...lol! Hopefully I will get a digital camera for Christmas so I can post some pics.

How about a Steeda catback system? Here's a couple of pictures of mine.
.
I just had it installed on Monday. The Steeda is made by Borla. Check out this thread for more pics and info. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=57873

Hey thanks guys for all the great pics. you have all helped me out alot. Heres what i'm thinking. I think from the outside PhillipSVT is the look that I want. It looks like his tips might be a little larger than the Steeda and IMO looks awesome. So Phillip you have a single out flowmaster and the stainless tips Y'd off is this correct?
The Steeda looks great from underneath the truck and looks to be the easisest to put on do to the fact that I don't have to hope that the muffler guy is good at making custom exhuast and cares to get it just perfect. The price is a bit steep for me though but It looks like the tips are kinda oval is this true or is just the picture?
I would really like to see the Bassani system any advice on where to go to get the best price and maybe a picture. Thanks again guys, Paul

I have a SI DO(single in, duel out) The Flowmaster 50 is a little longer than than the 40, so the bents were a little trickier for the guy. Here is a pic of the pipes. I reacently cleaned them up so they look a hole lot lot better, (I used some turtle wax chrome cleaner). I will try to post new pics when I go home for break.
Like the look, but...
Do you guys have problems with discoloration of your rear wheel from exhaust gases? I have a 2K, but Ford recalled the 97's I believe due the original exhaust exit in front of the rear wheel was turning wheels and center caps brown/green. Have you guys seen this with your trucks yet, or is the discoloration due to people not maintaining their wheels? I have seen the problem on a couple of 97's in my neighborhood. I think the Steeda system is cool, and would want to know that before I put that exhaust and some AE 589's on my truck.
HOLY S PIPE BATMAN! Wow those pipes are S shaped that does not look like it was easy to for the muffler guy to do. Thanks So much for all the pictures that last one will really help. I am going to print it out and take to my muffler guy.
I had a 97 and the stock wheels were fine no discoloration at all but when I put a set of polished Centerlines on the back right whell would dull in about a week of driveing and look really dull after about two weeks so I had to polish that wheel at least every two weeks. The other three wheels I just washed. I don't think you will have this problem if you have chrome or clearcoated wheels.
