the 50series Flowmaster...
someone told me that i needed to get the 50series type of Flowmaster product, instead of the 40 series. he said that the 50series had a 3 chamber system, unlike the 40s. he also said that the 40s would open the exhuast too much and i would loose backpressure, meaning a loss in low end power. is this true?? if so, then can someone tell me what the whole 3 chamber thing is with the Flowmaster?? and is a 2.5" pipe or a 3" pipe the right size to use, without loosing backpressure?? help please...

Hi everyone,
I just had a flowmaster 50 delta flow installed on my stock pipe 2.5 in/out and a chrome tip. It is definately a deeper tone than stock and it sounds really nice at WOT, but it is not loud which I am glad because I did not want it too loud
I will re post in a week or two after I drive it some to see what is sounds like after breaking in, but so far I am a happy camper.

I am interested in the answer also. I am (was) going to go with the 40 series.
I have been told these two things.
1) The local muffler shop told me the 40 series is the way to go with the 4.2 ltr V6 and that the delta flow is the only option available since Flowmaster doesnt make the non-Delta flow muffler anymore.
Flowmaster Engineering strongly recommended the 50 series (part number 524552) single inlet / single outlet for a V6 4.2 ltr engine.
I am getting real confused.

You won't lose power with the 40 series. Just because it is a little bit less restrictive than the 50 series doesn't mean you will LOSE power. You still gain. There is maybe just not as much of a gain in torque than there would be with the 50 series. You still have plenty of back pressure coming from the cats. One of the reasons to do a cat back is to allow the engine to breath easier. Also the 40 series sounds bad a$$.

I've had Flowmaster Delta Flow 50 for over a year now. It sounds really sweeeettt!!
.. when you put your ear right next to it
I was a little disappointed for going with DF 50. Not loud enough for my taste. And I'm not one of those people who like to wake up the neighbors and set off alarms either. I just want my truck to sound like a truck. Too late to go back though, especially considering how the DF 50 cost $100 and the stainless tip cost $110. (Shipping and installation not included)
There is a noticeable difference in performance (above 40mph) which is nice.
If you're planning on choosing Delta Flow then I'd recommend going with 40 Series.
Happy New Year!!

Jedat,
At highway speed DF 50 sounds nice b/c rpm is up there. (W/ windows closed) Only "street" driving sound disappoints me.. unless you drive around in 3rd a lot..
ThreeForks,
Go for single in/single out.
