Rough cold start and idle
Rough cold start and idle
Help...2008 F150 4.6 .Truck started idling rough on cold start ups a couple of weeks ago, would get better after the truck warmed up, but still noticable at an idle. Loss of some fuel MPG as well...checked the codes then came up with P106 and P171...trying to track it down, I reset the codes ... finally came back up, now im getting....P0106, P0171, P0174, P0430, P2195 and P2197.... Initially thought EGR, but now in worried it is something more. Please help
The P0171, P0174, P2195, and P2197 are all lean codes. You probably have a major vacuum leak. The P0106 is a MAP sensor code, which you don't have. However, it can be caused by unmetered air entering the intake tube between the MAF sensor and throttle body. The P0430 is low catalyst efficiency on bank 2, your cat may be getting plugged. Check out this video for the vacuum issue:
I highly doubt that it's an EGR issue.
I highly doubt that it's an EGR issue.
You need to check the intake tube between the air filter and throttle body for any holes or any place where air can get sucked in. Make sure the PCV inlet hose is connected at both ends and isn't rotten. Check the PCV outlet hose where it connects to the back of the intake for holes and rot. A bad MAF won't cause it to stall, but you can test that theory by disconnecting it. It won't run right but it should run.
I checked again for vac leaks, still none found...unhooked the MAF sensor, when i pulled it the RPM jumped the second i unhooked it, then went back to how it was running, did the same thing when i hooked it back up.

Is it a stock intake? Some aftermarkets don't have a proper crankcase breather connection and can leak well. I bought a used Volant and had to mock up some hose to re-connect mine because the OEM connection was too small for it and the seller didn't give me the hose.
