New Exhaust time

Time for new exhaust, as mine is falling apart. Talked to the guy that does my exhaust about going with a true duals, with a dynomax ultra-flo X. I have to buy the muffler, as he doesn't carry them. Going to keep my stock manifolds, and probably cats, for now, as this is already getting expensive. Just going to cut off the piping, at the Y, and come off of that.

I am trying to decide whether I should go with 2.25, or 2.5 for the piping. I only have a little 4.6L, but I do have 4.56 gears. Was leaning more towards the 2.25, for the low end torque.

There will be no difference in the TQ....here's why, the muffler & pipes do not create the greatest restriction in the system so even if you replace them, the flow is still the same. OEM cats, while a little restrictive, it is minimal and even when tested on a dyno with a 700+ hp engine, removing properly working oem cats produced no hp/tq gains.....so in essence, you are getting "tone'...nothing more, nothing less.

I forgot about the exhaust guide before I posted this. It appears to disagree with your statement.

Pipe size is different on true duals. There are 2 main diameters that members use. 2.25" for low end torque, and 2.5" for top end power. Sound quality also changes ever so slightly with the 2 sizes, the bigger being slightly deeper. Other than that, you can't tell a difference in the pipe size by just listening.
Sounds like 2.25 is the way to go, for my truck. Now to decide if using the that ultra flo x is going to be a good idea. It would eliminate the need, for an X-pipe, as it is built in. Just concerned with location.

I had that same muffler on my other truck and loved it. I have the super flow on my truck now and love it. Location try and get it between the bed and the cab. Those mufflers are awesome sounding and no drone!!
Either way u will not be disapointed!!!

Yea part of my location concern was due to the built in X-pipe. I know typically you want the X-pipe closer to the manifolds, and the muffler is further down. My exhaust guy is pretty good. He has been doing mine, since I started driving. I know he doesn't work with dynomax products, which was the other part of my concern.

Love the sound, and lack of drone. It is a bit quieter, than I expected. My tire noise nearly cancels it out, on the highway.

It will get louder as you drive it. Sounds like you like it so far.

Yea I am liking it, so far. My mudclaws are pretty loud, out on the highway. Noticed it accelerates a bit smoother, from a stop, that it was previously.
