Newbie, want to achieve this sound on my exhaust

Hi, am new in the forum, I own a 98 f150 4.6 pick up truck, Ive been through some of the threads wich are interesing specially the exhaust guide.
I need some help, I am wanting to achieve a deep sound in my exhaust, sometimes I hear what I want when in the street I spot a f150 truck, now, in youtube videos I quite not find any similar sound, all trucks sound very dragster, until I discovered this video please check at 00:47, that is very close to what I want. what kind of configuration may help to acheive that sound? thanks.

My name is Ryan, and I work for Borla Exhaust. I think the best way to get a sound similar to that would be to delete the front resonator with a straight pipe, and replace the stock muffler with one of our "S-Type" mufflers. It is 10in long x 5in wide. The part# is 40842s, and here is link to it.

Feel free to call me if there are any other questions. My direct line is (805) 246-6073 or email me at ryanb@borla.com

Thats good information to have. I thought they were components quite a bit longer than that.

If you are looking for a rich, deep, throaty sound, I suggest that you get a Flowmaster Exhaust Kit.

My 4.6 sounds veeeery similar to this, if not louder and "throatier".

I run only 2 Eastern cats- no "pre-cats".
I am still single out, 3" cat-back and a 4" tip.
I am running a Flowmaster Super 10 muffler too.
I also did a Gotts mod, which is awesome by the way, but doesn't directly affect sound- just breathes and pulls so much easier.

I don't have a bunch of money tied up in it. I'm still pretty redneck about my rides- couldn't really care less really about their perfected looks. I just want functional and want my components to be solid mechanically. I am meticulous about how it runs and performs, not so much on showy looks. I am also on a budget that is not real forgiving...

I do occasionally set off a car alarm...and no, highway drone does not bother me, even at the ripe old age of 46. I will frequently make 4-6 hour drives to get to my favorite camping/hunting areas (I am careful on the throttle in the woods out of courtesy to others, and I am a stalker, so I spend a lot of time walking to my spots.).

Exhaust systems can be a PITA to decipher in videos. There are too many variables such as the microphone, speakers, audio equalization, etc. The only way to truly know if an exhaust system has the sound characteristics you seek is to hear it in person, on an identical truck.

Recommendations and opinions will vary greatly and there are some trade-offs. I personally prefer a Magnaflow exhaust system due to the deep, aggressive tone and minimal chance of droning.

A Flowmaster exhaust system also sounds nice. All things being equal, their exhaust systems tend to be a little throatier, but not quite as deep. There's also more chance of droning with a chambered muffler compared to the straight-through design Magnaflow uses.

All things being equal, the smaller the body of the muffler, the louder it will be. A split-dual exit will have a throatier sound, a dumped exhaust will be bassy, and a single exit will be somewhat mild sounding. But there really are a lot of variables. So the next time you hear a truck like yours (in person) that sounds like you want, ask them what they're running and how they like it.

Hope this helps. Best of luck whatever route you go.
