Y pipe

I am set to run side exit pipes right after the cats on my 2000 HD F150. My question is, where is the stock Y pipe located, before or after the 4 cats? I am wondering if it's necessary to use an H crossover to equalize the system, or if I can just go with 2 separate pipes.

The Y is after the cats, and you will need a X-pipe, or a DI/DO muffler with a built-in X-pipe.

Thanx, glc. I thought that pipe might have been the Y. I noticed on the exhaust guide some use an H style, which my buddy can fab up for me pretty cheaply, compared to the cost of an X pipe. Would this work as well?

I am really looking for low end torque, which is what I read somewhere the H provides as well.

If you are looking for low end torque, keep the stock single!

Thanx, glc. When I bought the truck, it had already had a set of Raven muffs on it. I've never had the stock system on it. The system had rusted through, so I'm replacing from the cats back. I like the sound I have now with no muffs, and don't really notice any difference in torque from what I had before. But I've heard a balance pipe of some type is a good idea

The stock 2000 system is one welded unit, and the Y that necks 2 pipes down to 1 is after the cats.

I understand and I agree that the merge in the pipes is after the catalytic converters. But a "y pipe" I've always known as the pipe containing converters that connects the manifolds to the catback. Either I'm a fool that's never been under a vehicle or this thread was taking about the merge and not the y pipe. Either one is completely possible lol. Never been under a 2000, but everything I've ever worked on confirms my thinking

My system wasn't stock, but the OEM cats are still intact. From what derekbuckner1 is suggesting, I wouldn't need to incorporate a balance pipe (H style, or X) into my system in order to take advantage of scavaging. Any thoughts?

Do I need a balance pipe?

I am a bit confused about the need for either an H or X crossover for my muffler delete. My truck has the 5.4, and is presently cut off right behind the cats. If I run dual pipes out the side, do I need a balance pipe, or is there already a Y pipe in front of the cats?

Like I said, you need a X-pipe.
