Header Installation

Okay, living in CA sucks when it comes to upgrading anything CARB.. that being said, you can do it.. ya can still pull off smog.. but it's illegal.

I recently won a pair of headers (ceramic) from gibson exhaust. They're nice, for shorties..

I just need a bit of guidance in terms of installation. Tell me if I am on the right track here or if I'm going overboard.

First, buy gaskets. WD-40 all them darn bolts from headers to exhaust and headers to the block, while the engine is cold, let sit overnight. Remove cat exhaust from headers, loosen / remove engine mount bolts and lift engine 1-2" with a jack.. or use a hoist with a strap to pull it up.. Iono..? Break loose them darn header bolts and remove headers. Gasket, Header, bolts. Tighten but don't torque down yet. Once engine is relatively hot torque, then check them about a week or so later?

I am a big DIY guy, is this basically everything I have to do? It's a okay job, not huge.. should I buy new bolts for the headers? I am assuming so. If I snap a bolt off what would be the best route to take in pulling it out? Did I cover everything?

Thanks for any help!

WD-40 is not a particularly good penetrating oil - PB Blaster is a lot better.

I believe the stock manifolds are attached to the heads with studs and nuts, not bolts.

You are right! However I believe one the stock headers are removed they come with bolts.

There are actually a few places online that have JBA instructions, which is albeit the same when installing these.. just no mentioning of loosening the motor mounts.. gibson told me I'd have to at least loosen then and lift he engine a tad.

Find the Dynatech install guide for their 3v longtube system and follow that. It will just take less effort ( transmisson crossmember removal and Y pipe work eliminated ). It is thorough and clear with tips and detailed instructions. They have it posted on their website.
