2003 Ford F-150 catalytic converter

Well I've been hearing a rattle the past few days. I decided to crawl under and see whats going on. Its coming from the passenger side cat, under the passengers door. Normally I would try and fix it myself. Up here in the Boston area its getting kinda cold to be laying on cold pavement.
My question is this...what would be the cheapest way to replace this? Should I hire a shop to simply cut out and weld a new one in? If so which one would fit my truck? I've seen several options and its kinda confusing. Truck has 160k and who knows how much more I'll get out of her.

Its a 03 F-150 5.4 v-8 Super Crew

Thanks!!

Are you sure it's not just the heat shield?

I wish! I'll double check again tomorrow.

I hit the converter with my hand and I could hear something loose inside.

If it is the cat and you aren't able to do the work, go to a muffler shop and see what they offer for options. The small "mom and pop" shops will probably be more willing to work with you than the large chains. OEM cats are pretty expensive, and you have 4 of them - 2 on each side.

Well I feel stupid! Please delete this post lol

I replaced my exhaust with a Magnaflow last month. The strap nearest the cat needed to be tightened more. That solved the rattle.

Thanks for all the help!

At least you found out before going forth with the catalytic system change. Good find.
