Exhaust/Programmer/CAI questions

I'm having a lot of trouble finding an exhaust kit thats
  • Affordable
  • not extremely loud (I don't need to be waking the neighborhood up)
  • "offroad exit"

Could anyone help me out here? I'm trying to keep it under $500 also which i'm finding is a huge stumbling point. I like the sound of the magnaflow ones I've seen on Youtube but I'm still not sure how loud they actually are and 99.9% of the kits i'm seeing are straight-rear exit rather than 45's

My goal is to buy the exhaust and a programmer with my (entire) next paycheck

I found the programmer I think I'm going to go with if anyone has ever used this company I'd appreciate any input also

http://www.morepowertuning.com/sct-7...ford-f150-5.4L

If I purchase this programmer, I plan to put my S&B CAI back on, it won't cause the truck to run lean again, correct? (it comes with 3 custom tunes for free)

Long post with a lot of questions but that's where I'm at with all 3 items. I drive about 500 miles or more a week so I think this will be a worthwhile investment anyone have any input for me please?

Ryan.

I can't comment on the exhaust, but I can say that a X4 is one of the best programmers on the market and MPT is a highly regarded tuning house. Just make sure you tell them ALL your mods, especially your intake.

You could get an 18" magnaflow and do a dump after the muffler. Good for off-road, not having to worry about smashing your pipes, but you could have some drone. I've personally never had a dumped exhaust, but I know a few others have said that there tends to be a good bit of drone. Or just do what the diesel guys do and cut holes in your bed and put your pipes there! Lmao

I did that at one point. Definitely a great bang for the buck. The money saved means you can use a quality muffler like Magnaflow. Even better is opting for the satin (i.e., non-polished) version. Exact same muffler, but who needs it to be polished like a mirror? Saves a few bucks.

Pay attention to the body length. The larger the body, the less loud it will be. With a dumped exhaust, it's going to be louder since the sound waves are bouncing off the ground. 18" will sound nice, but may be a bit much. If you want to err on the side of caution, perhaps a 22" or even 27" will be the proverbial droid you're looking for.

After the muffler, just grab a universal hanger, a 45° elbow, and a pair of muffler clamps and that's all you need for the exhaust.

Called magnaflow today. They don't make a screw cat back dual that comes out at a 45 for a 2004. Now I don't know what I'm gonna do.

I'd get an 18" Magnaflow and just have a shop do the dual exhaust for you. It'll be cheaper than a catback kit, like $250-$300 total. No one makes 45 degree exit catbacks, to me knowledge.

Off-hand, I know Flowmaster and Gibson does.

Here's an example of the install guide for one of the Flowmaster kits. They include tail pipes that let you choose.

Huh, didn't recall ever seeing one! Only people I know with them had them done. So I stand corrected.

Magnaflow and Borla used to offer 45 exits too. The Flowmaster kit is unique because they give you both exit pipes to choose 45'd or straight out.
