Walker 21292 muffler and 1999 F150

I was looking for cheap, stock and quiet. I just want to keep this thing going for a while longer. 1999 F150 ext cab 4x4 5.4L 127,000 miles.
The back of the muffler was really blown out. This is the original exhaust.
I got a Walker 21292 for about $100 delivered from Amazon.
The Walker is about 4" shorter than the stock muffler. I got a little creative and found the extra four inches inside the old muffler. The pipe connections fit OK; 2.5" OD to the Walker 2.5" ID.
I still need to fabricate something for the hanger; probably a length of steel rod. And get some clamps.

It makes me glad I dont live in an area where the roads are not salted when I see pics like this.
Thumbs up for getting creative with the fix.

Good old Michigan salt will do it every time.
But, it is 15 years old.
The Westin side tubes are rusted/gone.
I just replaced the rear brake lines. The fronts were last year.
I keep looking at the fuel tank....

Is the fuel tank not that high density plastic? I thought they were plastic with a flimsy metal "skid" plate on the bottom.

That's the gas tank in the background of all three pictures.
If it's plastic, it's the special kind that gets rusty.
At least it has those nice shiny black straps holding it up (Ford recall).

Here is a picture of the finished hanger - 2.5 feet of 3/8 rod, welded to a 2.5" clamp. It looks pretty.

...and for those that care, it does seem pretty quiet - OEM quiet.
