magnaflow to borla, less raspy?
magnaflow to borla, less raspy?
So I got a sido magnaflow 14" on my 5.0 screw and I'm thinking of switching to a 14" borla pro xs, I'm sick of the raspy cackle the magnaflow gets at higher rpms. From what I've read and heard, the borlas don't have near as much raspy cackle sound, but they still have the rumble at idle and such. Anyone done a similar swap and can confirm or any input ?
Also has anyone had any quality issues with the pro xs muffler like rattling issues? Saw a review on summit saying someone returned two of them for rattling issues.
Also anyone with a 19" borla and no resonator can you comment on the sound and overall thoughts vs the 14" borla, maybe was gonna get the larger one.
Thanks!

The main rasp comes from the lack of resonator with the 5.0L, however, I had 11" Magnaflows in my previous '04 5.4L and it did rasp under WOT, however it was a true dual. My current 2007 5.4L has a single 3" with a 14" round Magnaflow and I can not get it to rasp for the life of me. Makes me scratch my head some.
The Borla mufflers are a better built muffler, interior of ceramic and such. Not the cheaper rock wool packing the Magnaflow units are made of. The Borla mufflers don't create the rasp type sound much at all unless under a true dual fashion which is natural to create the rasp tone.

The main issue is more likely the small muffler. An 18" or 22" would do a much better job eliminating the raspy sound. Or add a resonator to what you have now.
With the exception of their off-road series (dumped in front of the rear axle), Magnaflow uses 18" mufflers for their cat-back systems on this truck.

So just going with a borla of the same size will possibly not eliminate much rasp? That's a bummer cause I like how loud it is now with a 14" but I could tolerate it toning down a little in loudness if I can eliminate the rasp, so probably either get the larger borla or add a resonator, hmm....what do you guys think of aftermarket resonators like this one: http://m.ebay.com/itm/321450673573
Then why do I keep reading posts of people saying the borla material breaks down over time and gets louder? Like they have a break in period, if that's so then what's to stop the material from all breaking down over time?
