06 5.4 exhaust question

Do you get better performance by just replacing the factory Y pipe and going with three inch intermediate and tail pipe, or do you get better performance making it a true dual 2.25" pipe with a X pipe? regardless im going with magnaflow muffler(s).. thanks

Not really any performance, except maybe in the mid to hi rpm ranges. Buy that being said I'd go single 3" with a maggy Y-pipe to replace the stock y.

I think they are both about equal, it all comes down to sound preference. 3".will be deeper sounding than 2 1/4.

The 2.25" true dual X'd done with mandrel bends will outperform the 3" single in high RPM range.

Both will function the same at low to mid rpm. Might even have better torque with the dual mandrel 2.25" over the single 3".

I would say dual 2.25 MANDREL bent. But you're talking very little difference since exhaust doesn't do much anyway

well what about cats? does it do any harm or good removing them? I don't have to worry about emissions where I live and my programmer can disable the rear o2's

Since you have a 06 there would be no good in taking out the cats. They are already high flow as it is.

ok. that's all I need to know. im not that big on "sound". as long as it sounds decent. so as long as it performs as good or better with cats that's all I care about.
