Both side exit on each side - need opinion

This is on my 99 extended cab with 5.4.

I removed the stock muffler and ran some custom piping over the frame and basically have a side exit exhaust before the rear tires on each side. That eliminates the issue with gas tanks.

I still run the 4 stock cats the truck came with. Right now no mufflers. I love the way it sounds, but at cursing speeds or when slightly getting on the gas it's a bit much for the wife or even trying to listen to the radio.

Are the any bullet style mufflers that would tone it down? or will a couple magnaflow resonators quiet it down while cruising? I'm asking for a rounded muffler/resonator due the fact I'm running the piping outside of the frame rails and as you know there is not much coverage there to hide the pipes. the bigger regular rectangular type mufflers are to big and would be noticeable if looking at the truck from the side.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I love having the pipes exit on each side before the tires.

Now would just love to quiet it down just a smidge to be able to have a conversation at normal speeds. The sound is great at WOT or acceleration.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Thanks,

The Dynomax Bullet is pretty much your choice here, order a couple and put them in.

Thanks. I've had those before. They seemed to give it an aggressive sound, but I don't recall them helping with sound reduction or drone control....

What do you think about the Borla rounded mufflers? I think they are around 14" long or something like that. Looks like a lot of mustang run them.

I'm assuming they are a straight through design, but seems like their body is little more thicker with sound packaging vs the Bullets you suggested.

Thoughts? I'll see I might go back down there when temps go up and see if a regular size muffler will fit if I angle it right or put it back towards the step part on my step side bed.

Would moving the muffler further back help with sound or should I try to keep it closer to the front with more piping traveling back?

Thanks again.

Muffler farther back will help the sound be a bit more smoother, up further may possibly help reduce cabin noise but not a whole lot as it is riding right along with the cabin.

Go for the 18" long Magnapack or Dynomax Bullets.

The best way to reduce drone is extend the tailpipes to the back of the truck.
