whats the difference?!

So whats the difference between Lightning longtubes and a 4x4 set? 99-03 5.4

4x4 set have shorter length collector to allow room for the transfercase, the lightning ones are similar to the 2wd ones, longer collectors.

What if you have the 4r100, 5" longer? Just curious

Whatever is specific to your model year and drivetrain should work. You can try buying a set for a 2001 4wd if you want to assure they will work for your transmission.

I bought OBX Longtubes for a 4x4 for my 2000 Expedition, which has the 4r100. The pipe needed to be extended to work.

I bought a set of obx lightning long tubes. For my 4x4.
Yes they worked, but the passenger side hit the frame a little and I couldn't use the cross over portion because the t-case was in the way.

Ok well from the sounds of it I could go with either of them since I swapped in a 4r100 which is longer, the crossover was right where the new trans crossmember is now. Thanx guys!
