Catalyst Convertor Replacement
Catalyst Convertor Replacement
I have a 2004 f150 supercrew 4x4 5.4 3v motor, my passanger side cat is rattling. Just got the news it has to be replaced. I have 40,000 miles on the truck, i know that there is a 80,000 mile or 8 year warrenty on the CC, iam 10 months past the 8 year warrenty. I have called ford, and in a nice way they told me that i was SOL. So has any one hear took it to a shop to replace it, and what did it cost. Thanks Russ
Have both (sets, there are 4 total on yours) cats cut out and replaced with Magnaflow Hi-flow cats. Should cost around $300, certainly no more than $500 MAX. Getting just that one side replaced with an OEM or OE quality catalytic converter will cost between $900 and $1200 dollars, somewhere around there. That's what it costs for 2006+ cats because they only have 1 cat on each side, yours is a bit different.
On a side note, I have 2 functioning OEM cats that I took off my 2006 5.4 when I did my exhaust work at 87k miles that are sitting in my garage. If shipping isn't horrendous, I'll make ya a deal on them if you're interested.

I actually chose to not have any cats on my truck because of the kit that my new headers came with. I may add them down the road so I'm legal, but I'm not sure if there is room for them. I had my custom tunes on my SCT programmer turn my rear O2 sensors off so thy I don't have a CEL on.
I may be mistaken, but I think those 94106's are compatible with either engine. But I know that they are definitely ok for the 5.4. So you should be good to go with a set of those Maggies and not have any issue with the CEL. It has happened that some people get a CEL with them, but it's rare

thanks for the info man. I have a set on the way so I should get them tomorrow and hopefully installed Monday or Tuesday and I'll let ya know how it does. If by chance I do get a code I might just do the Gotts o2 mod and hopefully be done with it and my next step is true duels (2.5" piping) with a H or X pipe (not sure which one yet) and two magnaflow straight through mufflers with both tips (3.5" probably) exiting before the rear passenger wheel
Got my 94106 magnas welded in yesterday! To still have the stock Y pipe and stock muffler and tailpipe it sounds alot better than it did before. Next thing is decide on what mufflers im gonna go with. Oval or round body? I was thinking about two of the 4inch or 5inch round x 14inch long magnaflows. What do Yall think? and X pipe or H pipe for my crossover?

Thank you for the replys. I had the rear cat on the passenger side replaced last thursday. The shop cut the old one out,and replaced it with a magnaflow. No cel. Total cost part & labor $110.00. Iam very happy. Thanks Guys for your replys.
You could have deleted your rear cats all together and still not had a CEL because only the front ones are O2 sensor monitored. I found that out with my old 2004.
Interesting, if that's right lol.
The rear ones dont have O2 sensors downstream so the computer doesn't know if they are even there.
I have "heard" some trucks do have them. Possibly California trucks? I know of the hundreds of f150s I've been under none had them.

Only the upstream converter is monitored ? I must be misunderstanding, that can't be right. Every converter before the 02 is monitored. Not just the one in front.
Well, the end efficiency is monitored anyway lol.
Is there a converter after the monitor maybe ? From 04 +
Iduno, I don't get what you r saying I guess.
