So lariat02 you're saying don't get a 3" in muffler if I want dual? If I just got a Magnaflow muffler and an exhaust tip would that increase my performance at all? If I did dual would I need two mufflers, one on each side and two tips? How would that be in terms of performance?

No don't do dual 3" exhaust. Since you seem kinda lost read the exhaust sticky. It is basics on exhaust and all the different configurations. Once you figure out if you want a si/so , si/do, tru duals, duals with x-pipe, or duals with h-pipe configuration then start a new thread with anymore questions you need. The sticky isn't perfect but it gets you on the right path.

the sticky was written by a biased individual....

anyway, if you are considering dual three inch then you can, BUT you can get the tone / note of the three inch without the loss in low end power but simply doing this the smart way

right now you've considered multiple options, none of which have been chosen by you

so you need to STOP

simply stop

once you have determined what you want from the exhaust, then you can make the next step on determining muffler type, exhaust pipe sizing and configuration

then you can make the determination where you want the exhaust to exit and how

then you get to choose a shop to complete the install, so you can decrease your fuel mileage for the first few tanks as you'll be romping on it to hear the exhaust

I only suggested that so he could understand more. He was totally lost and it was easier for him to see what it was all about then to explain everything. You know how it is having to repeat yourself all the time.

What I want from my exhaust is nothing too fancy. I don't want that loud super aggressive sound you hear a quarter mile away just a deep rumble that shows off my 5.4 more than OEM would. What I'm thinking is a Magnaflow muffler SISO with either mandel bend Magnaflow tips at 45 or just keep it straight rear exit. If I keep it straight would there be any bends from the muffler to the tips? If there are I want to get them mandel bended

I don't believe mandrel bent is that important in a just a muffler back set up. But yes there will be bends if you want it straight back. Your muffler is on the right side by the frame you still have to go over the axle and around your spare tire. Go to you tube and search different exhaust set ups on the 5.4 and see which one sounds good to you. My Borla turbo (pro-xs) duals wasn't really loud until i took out the cats and added LTs.

Looks like I will be going with the Pro-XS
The 14" Maggie and Bullet are louder than the XR-1.

Wells guys I finally got my exhaust done. I know this is going to displease and make some of you say that I should've done this or done that or that what I did was redneck, but I love it and it honestly sounds really good. I think leaving the converters helped give it a little more tone and not just a popping sound.

I went with true dual straight pipes with 2.25" piping and left all 4 factory converters in place to two 4x18 stainless tips at 45's.

I haven't noticed any lowend power loss or anything like that; probably because I really didn't have any lowend to lose anyway lol.

UPDATE: I finally got tired of the straight pipe sound and upgraded slightly. I kept the true duals but added a DI/DO Borla Pro XS and cut the rear two cats. I am much more pleased with the tone and it is still plenty loud. If I ever decide it isn't loud enough I can always cut the front two.

I know this thread is old as dirt, but I figured I'd give a little update here instead of making a whole new thread. I've also added a AFE Stage 2 intake and SCT X4 since this thread which helped liven her up just a tad

I wish I had a good exterior shot video but I can never get anyone to video for me lol.

And yeah Borla is by far my favorite as well. Definitely not cheap but worth it imo. I loved it on my Mustang and so I figured it wouldn't let me down on my truck as well. It definitely didn't. I love it
