Okay guys, I still haven't bit the bullet because different ideas keep popping into my head lol. For instance, now I have no muffler dumped before the axle as of yesterday. I like it a lot more than leaving it out the stock exit with no muffler. But it's just temporary until I get a "real" exhaust setup.

Anyways, I'm thinking of trying something different; or at least something I couldn't find a video of on YouTube.

I like the more choppy sound of true duals with no crossover, but I know it hurts performance and has a little too much popping for me with no muffler(s). So I was thinking of cutting out the factory y-pipe and running true duals into a dual-in/dual-out Magnaflow muffler.

Would that allow it to be a little more "choppy sounding" and help with the performance decrease of the true duals a little bit?

Borla Stinger

Borla XR1

Flowmaster Super 44

no way in hell would I consider installing a magnadrone on anything

and IF you decide to "dump" the exhaust, go ahead and have tips installed (yes. even if they aren't seen) to aid in the sound the truck produces

Will that setup give it the sound of true duals with no crossover, but without the downside of losing some low-end?

no

true duals gives a distinct sounds, same as each type of cross over does

that exhaust in the picture will sound like a single exhaust coming out in two places

a properly sized exhaust system will not lose any power

I was under the impression after reading "THE Exhaust Guide" that the true duals would take away some power due to the lack in scavenging and it being too free flowing for the amount of power my truck produces. But if it won't take any away, I just might go for it. Thanks for your help man.

As someone who wants to eventually own an exhaust company, I've been doing research here and there. People can spew around anything online. The math and formulas and theories with exhaust theory are above many people's heads. There's a reason why a stealth pipe works to kill drone or how to design headers and primary lengths. There are flaws in that sticky because its generalized.

At the end of the day pick what you like and enjoy it.

with that set up you won't lose low end and there won't be that droning noise.....

in any true dual system without a crossover you'll experience a torque dip in the mid level rpms.....cause the banks ain't balanced....

yeah I know, I laugh at that misinformation every time someone mentions it...

BUT since I dislike the mangaflow sound / drone I'm not part of the cool kids who worship 'em

now if you use too large of pipe then yes you will lose low end power

I'm going to add an H-pipe where the factory Y is now. Would running full 2.5 inch be too much? That's what my old GT was except with no cats at all and an X-pipe instead of the H.

I'm reading this post to try to figure out what kind of dual exhaust I want but I just got confused about what's going on. What does Magnaflow 94136 high flow cats, 3" Borla XR-1, 4x18" stainless tips mean? Is the Magnaflow the exhaust piping and the Borla the exhaust tip that you see sticking out under the truck?

Magnaflow are the high flow catalytic converters. You will need those to be 2.5" no matter what.. The Borla xr-1 is a muffler (BA muffler at that!). You will want a 2.5" or 2.25" muffler depending on what size duals your want. Don't go 3" duals!
And the 4x18" is the exhaust tip you see at rear of truck. Exit and size is personal choice.
