Magnapack and Hi-Flows

Hi all,

Thinking of upgrading my exhaust from stock 4 cat setup and 14" magnaflow followed by dynomax bullets to a 14" magnapack #10416 and 94106 hi flows. I already know its going to be stupid loud but thats how i want it to be.

Few questions though before I just throw money at it.
A) I have a true dual setup already with both tailpipes exiting behind the rear passenger tire like stock. How much would a shop charge to weld all of this stuff in? i know different shops charge different rates but like how much did you pay or how many hours of labor should i expect?

B) How much would a shop charge to redo the existing exhaust so that both pipes run out the back of the bumper on either side? I already have true duals to the rear tire so they wouldn't have to redo all of it right? 35108 magnaflow tips (the tips i would get) are $53 on amazon. Not sure if i want to spend extra cash on this, but if the price is right...

C) And finally, would it be cheaper to buy the stuff (muffler, cats, maybe tips)
myself, or buy through the shop?

Thanks!

I got the inspiration for this exhaust setup from this video. I think he is a member on the site, just dont remember his username.

I have the exact same set up as the guy in the video except I have 3" tips. I recommend getting a quote from some local shops in your area. My shop charged $60 per cat install I believe, maybe less. To install the muffler and tips was about an additional $90 I wanna say?? The Magnapack was purchased from summitracing.com they are who I always buy from and many here will agree they rock.

Go on there, find your muffler, cats, and tips then take it to a local shop to weld it all together. That's what I did! No problems to report and I get a big smile on my face after every start up.

Hope this helps.

Did the install of the muffler and tips include the extra piping needed to route the exhaust out the back or the truck?

No, I don't know how much the piping was to be honest but the total was between $90-$100 and the weld job is great. I only have a single 3" midpipe to the muffler then to the tailpipes.

not wanting to take away your post but I was thinking about the same thing kinda. But I could help you out a little with pricing i bought my stuff off of summitracing both mufflers and my x-pipe and took a local shop and to install everything from the factory y being replaced with the xpipe it cost me $200. But I have 2.25" true duals into dynomax bullets and i don't have my rear cats and its loud now. I was thinking the same thing and upgrading my cats to high flows because my driver side is rattling like crazy would the magnaflow 94306 be any louder then just the two i have?

What i have heard about 94106 cats is that they do the filtering job to keep CEL off and pass emissions but the material they are made with contains no sound deadening material but it does loose some sound just by nature. The 94306 are a 12" body so they will be a little softer than the 9" 94106 cats but still should be louder than stock front cats. Did your install cover the price of exhaust tips as well?

They provided the tips because I was sort of a newbie at the time I got the truck. Yes the 94106 cats are very loud but they do their job and that's all I care about. Go to your local shop and get quote. There's no way I could explain everything on here. For everything from new cats, new pipes, new mufflers, new tips, expect $300-$400

The 94106's I doubt are louder than just pre cats. The pre cats are tiny

Ok so new decision. I dont really like the look of a 45 degree angle cut tip if i go straight out the back but also dont like the rolled tips. That limits my options a lot. I think dynomax used to have some at like a 15 degree angle which i liked for the straight out the back look. I want a 4 inch tip stainless steel non rolled and less of an angle than 45 but not just straight cut. Maybe like 20 degrees. Do yall know of any?

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the help!

08fx4 that truck sounds amazing! Do you remember how much it cost you to have everything welded in? And did the 94106 cats give you a check engine light?

Thanks!

I can't remember exactly but I think I paid the guy $200 for the tailpipes and installation of cats/mufflers/tips. I already had the 3" pipe that I used for the midpipe.

The cats did throw a code on my truck. I just used some O2 sensor "extenders" that got the tip of the O2 sensor out of the piping and never had any other issues. I think if I had moved them further downstream then I wouldn't have had a problem. I'm thinking around 3" after the cats was the suggested distance but my wiring wasn't long enough. Don't hold me to that though.
