Borla Replica Suggestions?

I love the sound of the 140291 borla system but is there a cheaper version that is comparable in sound without sacrificing durability?

This is it:

I'd like this sound on my 05 fx4

Or buy the muffler itself.

Borla uses their 19" ProXS on the F-150 catback.

Remember, the 2009+ are louder than'04/'08 due to the better flowing manifolds, 2.75" exhaust piping, and freer flowing catalytic converters.

The Roush OffRoad catback is certainly the best sounding purchasable direct fit catback for'04/'08.

I was told there are pretty good replicas out there as opposed to buying borla. Not the case?

Also the 2009/10's come without a resonator, thats why I ordered a 2010 5.4 mid-pipe for my 2012 5.0, to replace the resonator that comes on the new trucks. Thats also one big reason the 09/10's are louder and this will give you a great sound just by replacing that Whale of a factory long muffler.

Borla is borla. No exceptions. Cheaper products use different materials and different engineering spectrums that leave Borla's patents unique.

So how pricey is removing the resonator and adding a borla system to get the sound I posted?

One more question: can't I buy just the muffler and not the whole catback system? I know it won't be what I originally posted but it has to improve upon the stock sound, and its way cheaper. I'm seeing just mufflers on jegs but I don't know what is what.

I see xr1's on that site also. Is there some reason you posted the xs instead?

How much less impressive will it sound if I put just the muffler on instead of the whole system?

The borla pro xs is the same as the Roush offroad....that's why I posted the link....you'll need 2.5" in and 2.5" dual out plus tips.....

If you'd like to go with the borla xr1 then build you're system this way using a 3" xr1.....

So can I not buy and install JUST the muffler? Sorry for dumb questions--obviously I know nothing about trucks.

You can buy and just switch out the muffler if you'd like. Most of us didn't buy kits, we purchased a muffler and had a shop fab up the setup we wanted.

Personally, I think having a shop do a custom build for you turns out even better and it is FAR cheaper.

Which muffler are you wondering about now?

First you wanted a inexpensive way for the borla 5.0 kit.
....I suggested the Roush offroad cat back

Next I posted a link for the borla pro xs, which happens to be a good match to the borla kit you originally asked about.
.....if you buy the single in 2.5" with the dual out 2.5" you will still need the tails run out by a shop.

Then you started to mention something about the borla xr1.
.....I showed you an example of the parts layout of how it should be installed

So are you just looking for a muffler swap now and keeping the original stock piping???

If he isn't sure what he wants, than I would suggest just doing a muffler swap and then going from there (to start).

Just my .02c
