Borla ATAK system for 5.0 L FYI

Just a short note for anyone considering the Borla ATAK system on a 5.0 Supercrew, they don't make one! I ordered a system for mine and it showed up looking good but when I went to install it, whoops! a bit short here.... I called Borla and it turns out, they only make it long enough for a supercab, needless to say, I was not happy . However, the only difference is that you need to extend the midpipe from the factory flange to the offset pipe, all it takes is a piece of 3" O.D. stainless tube, preferably 304 since that's what Borla used. I had mine expanded to fit over the Borla pipe and then TIG welded it on for a strong joint. The length required was 13" and it fit perfectly. Just so everyone knows, the system is great, sounds awesome, it really wasn't a big deal but had I known beforehand it would've saved some time and hassle.
Just sharing some info, not slagging anyone or any company. The extra pipe only cost $20.

How much does the system cost? I helped a friend put a three inch si/so out borla system for 280. Granted it's not stainless steel, but they don't salt the roads around here. Bought a three inch offset si/so borla muffler for 100 off summit, a thirty dollar tip and had a local shop delete the resonator and run three inch pipe from cat to muffler and weld the muffler and tip on. If I remember correctly the atak system is close to a thousand bucks. Just letting people know borla can be affordable and it sounds great. This is if you don't need the stainless. And for the mandrel bend folks, the added pipe is straight from y to muffler and you can reuse stock pipe after muffler as it is factory bent and three inches.

I think most exhaust systems rot from the inside out due to the condensate that is produced from the heating and cooling cycle. And the short the trips the worse it is on the exhaust. I have always found borla to be cheaper on ebay rather than buying direct from them usually save a couple hundred bucks or at least for my last 2 trucks.

Zombkilr That sucks about the system not fitting and having to add the pipe. I guess the good thing was it was an easy fix and you didnt have to send the system back but still a PIA.

Holy smokes!!

I don't know why a man wouldn't just buy the muffler and have a local shop fab it in. Much cheaper that way.

OP, where are the videos?

$400-$500 sounds really reasonable for piecing a system together compared to that kit price...imo

The Raptor borla kit is $200-$300 more than the Atak and it looks like the same thing except the exit....

^^ True dat! Actually, about $250-$300 around here, but that sort of work runs cheaper 'round these parts.

Of course it is! Just about anything for the Raptor is higher because the Raptor is a 'novelty' type of product. Silly, huh?

Up here we need stainless, they salt they roads HEAVY, shops around here just gouge the crap outta ya so for the extra $200 over what they were going to charge I got the warranteed setup that I could do myself in literally 30 minutes once I had the extension.
Sorry about the video, I'm totally clueless about that, I believe the term is "technologically challenged".
