true dual exhaust exit before tires on both sides

This is on my 99 4x4 5.4 with the off road package so it has the gas tank skid plate.

My question is this:

If I run a pipe under the skid plate from the passenger side to the driver side, will there be enough heat to affect the gas tank?

My thoughts were no. With the skid plate protecting the gas tank already, and the fact that the exhaust pipe is below the skid plate and gets cooled by the wind driving down the road.

Just wanted to make sure everyone agrees.
Been wanting to add a nice tip to the driver side. So both sides have pipes exiting before the rear tires.

I know you'll be able to see the pipe if you look under the truck. I'm not to worried about that. Safety is my concern. With my 35" tires, it still sits high enough to not have to worry about hitting things. I don't off road the truck.

Gas tank getting hot was my biggest concern. I do sit in traffic from and to work, but I would still think the skid plate will keep the tank from getting the heat.

Should look cool and sound great when done.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm running a true dual exhaust with H pipe. Will run two mufflers. Both of them will be on the passenger side as it has the most room. One will exit on passenger side, and the other on the driver side.

The tips are slant cutted 4 or 5 inch. I have on now and really like the look. Just want to match the other side up.

Maybe do some research on running a true dual set-up. I did my homework before deciding on a final purchase and time and time again I kept running across the same feedback; true duals on our motor will cost you two things…money and low end torque. If you're not concerned about losing either one, then go for it. The sound difference will be minimal when compared to a SI/DO muffler.

My opinion on the side exit on the driver is this, and just my opinion. I don't think you're going to like it running under the gas tank. It's not going to look neat or professional; there's just no neat way to do it. And, if your exhaust guy is 1/2 as picky as the guy that just did mine, he's gonna refuse to do it anyways. Additionally, I just removed my side exit exhaust (two pipes out the passenger side right in front of the rear whell) a 'la Lightning style because the tips were sooooo beat up and abused from all the crap the front wheel was slinging up against it all the time.

Anyways bro, hate to sound like such a Debbie Downer in my reply, but just sharing my thoughts…you did ask for opinions after all.

It isn't safe by any means and you may never get inspected, consider that. The only way to really achieve this exit is to run the drivers side outside the frame with the smallest round body muffler.

^ That is actually very impressive. Good luck trying to get a shop to do that though.

I agree it's very awesome!

Why don't you think a shop would do that?

I bet some shops would do it. For the right amount of money, any shop will at least attempt to replicate that set-up

^ Most shops are just too damn lazy and are not willing to make the extra money.
