He is way out in front. Sure he has had to pop for a few service kits, but that costs less than a new motorcraft filter, and lasts more than 30k miles.

motorcraft FA1754 - call it 17.00 ( Amazon has them 18.27 + free shipping if prime / rock auto is 10.93 + 8.xx shipping, summit is 20.95 + 4.90 shipping, etc )

K&N 33-2287 filter = 35.45
K&N 99-5000 Aerosol Recharger Filter Care Service Kit = 13.24
K&N Total = 48.69

Motorcraft filter changes for equal = 3 ( actually 2.86 )

Ford recomended filter service schedule, every 30k miles.

when you change the filter at 90,000 miles, you are money ahead.

My recharge kit was used 4 times and had 2 or 3 more uses when I sold the truck and gave it to the new owner. Yep, he's way ahead.

Chicken wire will just make your truck shut off when you touch the gas....also think about this too...you guys are correct about the amount of air that comes thru both the stock filter and the k&n but my take on it is the k&n is allowing more air thru with less struggling. Like trying to drink a milkshake thru a half inch straw compared to one of those tiny red straws/stirers for your coffee... You'll still get the same amount thru the bigger straw as you can thru the tiny one, but you aren't struggling to do it. Also means the shake hits your tongue quicker(throttle response) and the less struggling when you need more milkshake(going uphill or accelerating). Yes I just compared an air filter with straws and milkshakes....I'm hungry and also thirsty right now lol.

Yup, I remember him saying that he had k&ns in all of his fleet vehicles.

Actually not, because as previously posted, the OEM paper filter isn't the limiting factor for air flow. Not only is his analogy wrong, you can totally remove the air filter element and the engine will run without a problem.

A better analogy is you can suck all the milk shake you can take through a 1 inch pipe, you won't get any more milk shake through a 2 inch pipe.

"struggling"

As previously incorrectly posted by you.

You seem to have an opinion that you know more than tuners, you don't.

You need to try measuring the vacuum in the intake tube at WOT, and MAX RPM
with the OEM paper filter!

You need to do both on a Dyno and 1/4 mi ETs.
That is proof, not some test...... in a vacuum.

Yea, abused vehicles will run. How well and how long is pretty much up to your imagination. That's because you have no clue how much healthier an engine will run if it's not sucking foreign matter/debris all it's life.

I've seen the intakes inside and what can get past the K&N. Why in the hell would you want to chance that ?

Keep trying to make the mistake; the right choice. They need people like you.

Amsoil, - DRY elements, - only way to go.

Just thought about it, jbrew, and maybe that was a bad example, since it's impossible to kill the old 4.9s lol

The OEM filter/intake is a cold air intake.
