fake catalytic converter

silicone intakes.com has fake cats for $40 for those of you wanting to replace 2 of the 4 cats on some model years in case of a visual inspection of your exhaust. a lot easier than cutting one in half to hollow it out.

Thats a real good idea, however, only a mom and pop type of shop would consider installing because it would be obvious when you look inside.

yeah, i thought of that too, but for those who have 4 cats to start with and are paranoid because their mechanic is too nosy it's an option- if you put them on yourself.

Dumb question, but what's the legality of that? I've been debating about something similar, but I like having license plates.

Also any sound clips/video?

Thanks!

x2. however.....if you do get pulled over and the cop crawls under your truck...they kinda look like high-flow cats (not really) and if the cop asks...just tell him theyre high flow cats. I have Borla XR-1 race mufflers, so my exhaust is quiet for the most part and no cop has ever done anything. here is how it is "legal" since mine is a new yr model (so is yours) when you go to get inspected they hook up a diagnostic to your OBD2 port and check to see if your pulling any codes. if you remove the rear cats you will be fine without them..I have OBX SS long tube headers and just 2 resonators so if I just plugged in my o2 sensors they will throw a code saying im burning rich, im not its just that the resonator is letting more "bad" gasses thru than the stock cats, the way to bypass that is to get some spark plug non foulers, ull need four and drill a 1/4in hole i believe in them and screw them into the bungs on the pipes then screw the o2 sensor into them, that gets the sensor out of the way of the free flowing gases and it wont throw a code. and therefore I pass inspection everytime with being "legal"

I should write books haha

In STL, you've gotta have *something* in place of the cats to pass the visual check. Then it's an OBD2 check for emissions, so as long as your check engine isn't on, you pass that. My F-150 passed with gutted cats.

lol, exactly how many times have you saw a cop on the side of the road on a traffic stop looking under the car for cats?

99% of them couldnt tell you what a converter looks like or even does. only 1% could tell you how many most newer vehicles should have, and that same 1% wouldnt care if you had cats or was running an off road x-pipe.

id love to hear from someone who has gotten pulled over by a cop and questioned about their cats. loud exhaust, yes. cats, doubt it.

all that being said, it is illegal in most states. but all you got to do is get it past inspection. if your state does emission testing too in addition to visual, your screwed.

Source: im that 1%.

when i said off road, i simply meant an x-pipe without cats. non catted pipes are usually referred to as off road since they are not legal for road use. just using it as an example.
