Is this a lie?

So I went down to my local exhaust shop today to ask about pricing and such for putting on a new y pipe, 3" piping and a magnapack. As of now I have everything stock except a flowmaster super 44 muffler. The guy at the shop stopped me and said that in terms of volume, the super 44 will be louder and sound just as aggressive from idle-med rpms. He also only mentioned a flowmaster y pipe.
From what I've seen and heard the magnapack sounds a lot more aggressive and louder.
Now I understand that the shop was probably trying just to sell me flowmaster because they advertise them a lot but how do the two mufflers actually compare?
Thanks.

The magnapack will be louder, what length did you get? They make some long magnapacks... I'm assuing a 14"? General rule of thumb, round bodies are louder than oval body mufflers. The super 44 is not a round body

I have a 14" body. What effect does a larger say 18" body have?

Okay thanks for the info.
Also, any difference between a magnaflow y-pipe and a flowmaster one? Or too minor to notice/bother/care?
Looks like i'll be going with part #14419.

I currently run a Magnapack (14419) and maggie y-pipe and would put my volume/tone up against a Super 44 any day (at least from what I have heard in videos).

I think most dealers push Flowmaster because they don't carry the magnapack so they won't make as much on the install. When I got my Magnapack installed, that's what the exhaust shop told me.

^ Well ya, why would you not push a product that you sell. That way he can make a profit from selling the muffler and make bank off of labor.

A lot fo dealers around here push the 40 series like it's going out of style. When I was having my exhaust work done, a guy there went with the shops recommendation and got one of the 40 series on his Ram and he was NOT happy. It's funny, there wasn't much difference in sound over his stock muffler. lol

On a 99, the supper 44 and the magnapack will be comparable..

Not much sound is achieved without cat work...

I've had both mufflers in question on the same truck, and I think the chambered was louder to be honest, but the magnapack is very close and sounds a bit better.

Its going to be all in the tip.

If you want loud, go 4"

I have had 40 and 50 series on my truck. When I went to magnaflow the sound was more classic ford sounding and had to use less gas peddle to acheive the same speed. IMHO I would go maggie over flow any day of the week.
